When a Child Disapears

Tim, good to see you. Such a pretty girl...How old did you say? 

Father, not sure who she is, what her name is, twelve years old.

Do they know yet what happened?  

They?  You mean the detectives?

Who else would I mean?  Yes, the detectives.  Them.

They don't know. Some kid found her in the creek, under the ice.

She....Vicky? The girl in the ice?... That's her name, right?--Vicky, and must have floated downstream...

       Then the ice froze over her...Vicky, yeah that's her name...her folks had waited for so long...

How are Ken and Sheila--Vicky's parents, right? holding up?

Okay, I guess. Can't look at them.  We're taking food in for the family.

  The church always takes fried chicken and peach pie. For her, what's her name again? Vicky? That's the name, right?

I wonder if or when they'll ever figure out...find out what I did? God, I hope not.  I didn't mean to...the car swerved..Vicky... just appeared and...

You must, you have to tell them what happened.

      She was so scared...at the end...Vicky was crying

 She was scared before that...you could have saved her...Vicky would still be alive.

       Father Paul, I wasn't thinking...
     
Time to own up, Tim...Time to give Ken and Sheila peace. Vicky. Time for you confess. Time for you seek forgiveness.

       Scared...so scared.  I am so scared.

So was she, Tim. So was she.
 

Nothing nothing is more horrible and evil than what happens to some other Vicky, a little girl playing one moment then dead the next. We must be aware, speak out, react when we see something strange. Poor babies.

This was posted in 2020, so this might be remembered. There have been so many Amber Alerts lately.

 

 

Mom, are you ready to be his friend?

    

Have you ever heard your parents arguing? How did you feel, what did you think?

This toddler is a well of wisdom. "We need everyone to be that person. We want everything to be as good as possible."

(This young lady will be seen in a few years as a U.N. Representative for the United States.)

Facing Down Evil

Face of Evil…those words present differently to everyone.

For a four year old? What does a four year old see as evil?  Maybe, just scary, which is plenty.

For teens?  Evil?  Would they recognize true evil beyond “American Horror Story”?

Ah, but for adults…adults see evil in its many forms. Evil comes in the form of amoral, sociopaths, psychopaths, and every other “path” in the world. Adults have the ability to sense evil coursing about them. Some adults choose to shake it off while others turn to face evil in its face. 

This is a time of great evil. 

Watching the sincere protests in the streets following the horrific murder of a man pleading for his life raises anger, no, rage at the death of this man . 

And then to see the following senseless destruction of property and people livelihoods tarnishes and displaces the righteous anger all should be experiencing.  These have distinctly different goals. Confusion remains.

Confusion can't be disregarded, but it can be pushed aside to recognize the most important evil of all: ignoring the value of each life. 

Lives matter. All lives. Lives of Black, Mexican, Native American, Asian, White, and, especially, Blue--no matter the race, each life changes history in some undefinable way.

The lives that were taken, lives that have been ignored, lives that are discounted or seen as useless---these lives cross race lines and mix into the soup of injustice.

Face evil. See it for what it is. Face it down.

To say we live in perilous times is an understatement. There have never been such horrific events happening in the age of technology. We made the supposition that we are in a state of invulnerability, thanks to this age of science and research world-round in our mutual lifetimes. The timeline of tragedies can be pinned on a map. This map will now a deep black hole burned into it. 

Depression and anxiety are like a seeping gas. When it starts to get to me, I seek that which can fill me with peace.

Cold Ocean, Warm Sea

As the Ocean Rolls

Warm blue sea

Surface, smooth 

Reflecting sunlight

With a quiet wind.

Beneath 

Frigid, numbing

Green fighting blue

Rough, rolling

Turbulent, angry.

Swirling, ripping

Tearing apart.

Cold ocean hates

Flesh itself.

Cold water ocean

Warm water sea. 

God, stir blue green,

Dip Your Hands

Where cold fights,

Warm soothes.

Rescue me 

From cold.

Hold me 

In Your Warmth.

I cry out for You.

Wednesday Words: The Garden

The sun filtered through the garden, breaking through the dense foliage.  The twining squash vines sported hearty zucchini, which (as we know) would muscle its way through the other vegetables.

Butterflies were dancing over the blooming lavender and dahlias.  Over in the corner, isolated from the serene garden, were two gooseberry bushes.  Brooding and sour, they knew it was only a matter of time before they would be picked and treasured.
