Cold Ocean, Warm Sea

Image result for blue green ocean
As the Ocean Rolls
Warm blue sea
Surface, smooth
Reflecting sunlight
With a quiet wind.

Beneath

Frigid, numbing
Green fighting blue
Rough, rolling
Turbulent, angry.

Swirling, ripping

Tearing apart.
Cold ocean hates
Flesh itself.

Cold water ocean

Warm water sea.

God, stir blue green,

Dip Your Hands
Where cold fights,
Warm soothes.

Rescue me

From cold.
Hold me
In Your Warmth.

I cry out for You.

Wednesday Words: Dear Martha.....

16 October 2014

Dear Martha,

Your letter pulled me from a pit of despair.  If ever there were awards for "Surviving Multiple Plethora of Childhood Illnesses", I would be inducted into the Hall of Matriarchal Fame.

The triplets have developed a chain of cursed plagues:  Influenza, chicken pox (despite the vaccine), strep throat, ear infections, and worms (?).

Is this God's thunderbolt of retribution for swearing during Mass?  Loudly swearing at Clarisse-the-She-Devil, the mistress-of-insubordination?

As you know, my house was never a museum, but now a City Inspector would cover the house with "Condemned" yellow tape.

Must go. Alex-the-Spontaneous is vomiting on the cat. Christopher-the-Wild-Child is smearing the vomit on the bathroom mirror.

Your sister,

Mary-the-Desperate

Wednesday Words: Hal

Hal opened his eyes to see an indigo sky dotted with stars.  That was when a surge of pain hit him.  Hal scanned back into the last thing he remembered.

Dusk…place to camp…horse stumbling over log…flying through the air… blackness.

Lying flat on cold ground, Hal’s thoughts registered with despair that his leg was badly broken.

In the fog of his pain, Hal sensed that his leg had been splinted, a fire had been built, his saddled horse hobbled, and a woolen blanket covered Hal.  His canteen was placed nearby, full of water, along with a handful of nuts.  But how?  Who?

Sounds came from beyond the horse.  Hal ************

P.S.
Delores provided two lists for the bold and adventurous!  I, being the meek and cowardly this week, chose list #1.

Please visit Delores at Under the Porch Light by clicking on the lovely stream in the right sidebar.  Some awesome writing will be had there!!

Okay, then.  What happens next?  Who is there?  Who cared for Hal?

Keep moving, Sheila!

Sand Dunes

Staring into the light was the onset of despair.  Rolling dunes as far as could be seen robbed her of balance and Sheila fell, tumbling and rolling hard.  Get up, I must keep moving, she muttered as she stumbled to an outcropping of rounded stones and palm trees.

Sunstroke was a distinct possibility in this heat, driving her to find rest in the shade.

She grasped the nearest beverage and swigged back the green slime, thinking of it as a tropical treat.  Sheila choked and spit it out.

Mojito?  Are you kidding me?  Bring me a Margarita!

Sheila looked around the luxury resort and its exotic décor, with its handsome waiters.  That’s it—I’m catching the next flight outta Yuma!

She did not know but there were no flights that day or any other.

No disrespect is meant to Yuma, AZ.  Yuma is set among beautiful scenery.  When we drove through Yuma recently, it was 112 degrees F.
