Hal opened his eyes
to see an indigo sky dotted
with stars. That was when a surge of pain hit him. Hal scanned back into the last thing he
remembered.
Dusk…place to camp…horse stumbling over log…flying through the air…
blackness.
Lying flat on cold ground, Hal’s
thoughts registered with despair that his leg was badly
broken.
In the fog of his
pain, Hal sensed that his leg had been splinted, a fire had been built, his saddled
horse hobbled, and a woolen blanket covered Hal. His canteen was placed nearby, full of water,
along with a handful of nuts. But how?
Who?
Sounds came from beyond the horse. Hal ************

P.S.
Delores provided two lists for the bold and adventurous! I, being the meek and cowardly this week, chose list #1.
Please visit Delores at Under the Porch Light by clicking on the lovely stream in the right sidebar. Some awesome writing will be had there!!
Okay, then. What happens next? Who is there? Who cared for Hal?

Sounds like a good Samaritan saved him :)
ReplyDeleteThat is one possibility, definitely.
DeleteA giant radioactive squirrel? You know, because of the nuts lol. I was week and cowardly too.
ReplyDeleteThat was a bit of a stretch, but why not?
DeleteNice! Very curiosity-provoking writing!
ReplyDeleteThanks...but what will happen next??!!
DeleteA hermit in the woods came to his aid or bigfoot
ReplyDeleteBigfoot is a great idea.
DeleteIt was his wife
ReplyDeleteIf it was his wife, one can be sure that she will give him a verbal blistering.
DeleteIt was the horse. Repaying past kindnesses and as an apology for missing his footing and causing the accident in the first place.
ReplyDeleteOr perhaps it wasn't.
I wish it could be the horse, but no opposable thumbs.
DeleteI was thinking the same as Pat Hatt, a hermit living in the woods, gathering nuts for himself when he saw the accident, stopped to help then disappeared once he knew Hal would be okay.
ReplyDeleteThat could be the answer.
DeleteA kind spirit of the woods, perhaps. Love that fire on the black background. And your story, as always, is so creative.
ReplyDeleteThat fire was a serendipitous find. I love the idea of a spirit in the woods.
DeleteA ghost of an old cowboy or old Indian would have been a good ending as well.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the Duke caught up with Hal and is taking his injun into custody, hehe. Great story Susan.
ReplyDeleteThat totally works for me, Spacerguy.
DeleteI had been unwittingly recruited to participate in Song Pop.
ReplyDeleteThe birds are aimed at pigs that are positioned on quite a few structures.
