Blowing in the Wind

10' dia wheel

Danny had flown headfirst into a relationship with Kerry, lovely lovely Kerry. Then he quickly discovered Kerry was superb at creating an intricate windmill of lies

These were so preposterous, linked together with a weaver's skill. Each lie was more elaborate than previous ones. Only Kerry could make her deception an art form.

Yes, Danny wanted to shiver, freeze to escape Kerry's windmill.

WedWords were first created years ago by Delores.  She did great battles with her computer and then took time to heal.  The challenge has passed to Elephant's child and  River.

This is a repost from 2021.  Our farm had the remains of a windmill. It must have been ancient.

Windmill in wind

Danny burst through his apartment door, staggering and dripping from rain.  He stripped down naked, and he wanted to be cold, so cold that every part of his body shivered. Freezing cold.

This is a Wed.Words challenge from Sept. 22, 2013

Thumbing through previous posts shows me where my writing was going. Mostly I re-read the pages, and wonder "What was I thinking?"

This meme was started by Delores a long time ago.  Troubles led her to bow out, but the meme was too much fun to let go, and now Words for Wednesday is provided by a number of people and has become a movable feast. With Elephant's Child  and other blogger volunteers, Mother Owl's and will find the challenges. Underlined words are of the words available when first posted. Let yourself go.

The aim of the words is to encourage us to write. A story, a poem, whatever comes to mind. My difficulty is using words that were just released. Grant me some forgiveness, greatness cannot be hurried.

If you are posting an entry on your own blog, please let us know so we can come along to read it and add a few encouraging words. Head on over to play with words

Windmill of Lies

Danny burst through his apartment door, staggering and dripping from rain.  He tore at his clothing, wanting only to strip down naked.  He wanted to be cold, so cold that every part of his body shivered. Freezing cold. Numb.

In your face!

Damn you Mirror! That's not what I look like in my head! - minion

My mirror never tells falsehoods supposedly, dang it.  No matter what it proclaims, I call it a liar.

This past Christmas my children (ages 42, 39, and 37) were here to celebrate our 45th (that is forty-fifth) anniversary.  My birthday was also at that time and we all were together to honor this matriarch who brought them into this world.

Sixty-six (that is 66) years of living is difficult to comprehend.

I still look kinda like a 35 (that is thirty-five) year old in my own mind.  Here is our community of 55+, we ARE the kids, because we are surrounded by those in their 80s and 90s.  I look young.  More than that, I think young.

Our grand-daughters are 11.5 and 13 years old.  I hang out with them and I love every minute of it.

One girl at a time, we attack the mall and cruise around stores, like Hot Topics and Lunchbox.  We also check out the earrings in Claire's and then the hot shoes in Macy's. There are other places, but their selections are slutty and cheap.  We hold them up and laugh at them.

Our first stop is always at Starbucks, always.  That is the only place where I treat them.  They bring their own money, and are careful in their purchases.

We get photos taken in the kiosk where it now costs $5 (!) for strips of photos.  We are goofy, select crazy themes, giggle at each other, and share the prints.

Then, on another day, the second girl heads there with me, and we head all around.  We may go to the same places, but those hold totally different experiences.

What is the best thing is that they talk with me, tell me stuff, just like I am almost one of them. And I share my own stuff with them.  Tell them stories of my own teen years and family, passing part of me down to them.  Most of the time they listen.

Part of it is that I move just a little closer to their tween world, am allowed to peek into their experiences, learn more about these years of their lives, and have latched onto their language and most of their idioms. Their enthusiasm becomes mine, their youthful mannerisms are reflected in me.

How can the mirror lie so blatantly?  Doesn't it know?

Sunshine (11.5 years), Grandma (66 years), and Bright Eyes (13 years)
Worth every year.

P.S.  Sometimes when the phone rings and I answer it (usually it is the doctor office), the voice at the other end always verifies my age. How old did you say?  Really? Let me check your birthdate. Yes, you are that age.  You sound so young.... This is not true, just a wish of mine. I am a liar. Sigh.

H is for Honesty

Honesty

We have two delightful grand-daughters.  Only eighteen months apart, they are both friends and sisters. They are so very different from each other.

"Red Queen" is studious and an awful liar who always confesses.  "Alice" is a butterfly and an unrepentant liar.

That is why this event tickled and surprised us.  We had picked the girls up from school and were driving to their house.

“Grandpa, you’d better move this big folder here…Why, honey?.

“Well, if you don’t, I’ll look at it and it’ll distract me, and then”….Then what?

“Then I’ll pick it up, and then I’ll open it, and then…Alice, why are you crying?

“I’ll open it up, I’ll take out the papers,

I’ll fold them and tear them…” Sweet baby…

She sobbed more.  ”When we get out of the car, you’ll ask me if I played with your papers, and I’ll say No I Didn’t, and then you will say Tell The Truth, and then I’ll say I Am Telling The Truth…”

By the time we walked into the house, Alice was in fully crying mode.  “I’ll go to my room…”  She stomped up the stairs and we heard the door slam.

The folder was intact in the car, with sobs echoing down upon it.

Wednesday Words: Gwynneth

Everything about Gwynneth was superb, absolutely superb.  Former model, elegant, able to pull together magnificent events with seeming ease.  Superb.

Then her world came plummeting about her.  She discovered Geoff, her successful and wealthy husband, between Gynneth’s own satin sheets with her middle-aged maid.  “It’s not what you think…it won’t happen again…I swear this is the first time I have ever…”

But “it” did happen many times, each time with Geoff plying lie after lie.

At the final time, Gwynneth threw his expensive collection of exquisite art at Geoff, as he tried to bluster his way from her rage.  Holding Geoff’s favorite Rodin bronze and venting her anger, Gwynneth brought it crashing down on his head.   It was a glancing blow that knocked him cold.

Gwynneth made her decision quickly—faster than a lie from her cheating husband.

When Geoff came to consciousness, he saw two pair of glittering eyes looking down at him: His recently disenfranchised business partner, Joe, and Gwynneth.  “You spurious bastard!” Joe snarled.  “You stole everything from me!

Gwynneth purred in her nasal Texas twang as she tugged on the chains around Geoff’s ankles.  “You won’t lie your way out of this one!”

Together Joe and Gynneth released the hold on the heavy chains, sending a screaming Geoff to his watery death.

Geoff now lies for eternity.
