..Knee deep in water

fire and water

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze

Isaiah 42

These days I feel like I am in the middle of a smoky leaf pile as it is just starting to be a full on fire and my legs are in water 2 feet deep and rising..

Torch in the Dark Fount

Custom Pro Floating Pond & Pool Tiki Torch| FIRE on WATER!

Flynn struggled with creating meaningful narrative in his latest book, Torch in the Dark Fount.

Liam carefully spread his own shawl upon….

Who? Why would he “spread” any shawl upon…? Delete…delete…

Liam grasped his knife and savagely shred the silken shawl ….

A little better….type, type…

Conor presented a fragile white crocus dipped in enemy blood to Warrior Queen Maeve. "The blood of  your enemies, my Queen...
"

Ah, much better, Finn decided.  With a chest filled with pride, he headed to his kitchen.

He did not push save, something he would regret in a few hours.

Walk through the Fire

Disasters storm through our state in greater numbers.

Here in S. California, wildfires are vacillating from 20-??% containment so far, in our Riverside County.

Chaparral Fire, Murrieta, CA
About 40 miles away
We can see the smoke,
10% contained.

These photos were taken from our yard. These were about
20 miles away, 2008

This is always another cycle, annually expected and dreaded. Equally disastrous is the current Hurricane Ida, and eventually other hurricanes. The earthquakes in Haiti have shown the power of a restless earth. God bless and keep those people in the pathway of that horror.

Time is the Fire is which we burn

Image result for star trek generations movie poster

Time always propels us all, shoving us forward when we would be quite comfortable going backward. Because growing old(er) is so gradual at first, one day it is a bit of shock to find an old photo of ourselves and gasp.

Malcolm McDowell and Patrick Stewart confronted the issue in a Star Trek: Generations, one of Star Trek movies. Dr. Tolian Soran is seeking to connect with the Nexus, a spatial ribbon that would send him to the time to find his late wife (?). The rest of the plot can be expanded on plot summary

This movie unites Capt. James T. Kirk and Jean Luc to confront and prevent Soran from launching a rocket int this phenomena.

The source of this exquisite quote is J.M. Willard, a pseudonym for a prolific brilliant writer, Jeanne Kalogridis. Her list of writings is varied, ranging from books, through a huge amount of tech, movies, and more.  You can find her on Wikipedia source.

She is the one who wrote the phrase Time is the fire in which we burn. If nothing else, this phrase resonates with its simplicity and honesty.

What do you see in this simple phrase? How would you respond if this was said to you?

Dark and Light: Where Lies the Night Ch. 2

(continued)

Angele de la Barthe

There, on the far side of the pit, hung the limp bodies of Karl and Petra.

Almost unrecognizable, they had been clawed open and shredded beyond disbelief. Intestines draped from abdomen to puddles of blood below.

Their hearts were on a spit, turning slowly over flickering flames. Gunther cowered in a corner, his mouth opening and shutting in soundless terror.

Kylyu** existed beyond memory. She had appeared full blown onto an innocent world and slathered it with her evil. Kylyu rejoiced in the destruction she had wreaked in her trail through time. An ancient witch was she.

Incensed, Kylyu recognized and despised Snow White's power, blinded by its purity and unimaginable power. I have found her. Destroy her, finally.  She arose from piles of bones, clutching a gnarled staff. She hobbled from her foul lair to reveal herself, ready to unleash annihilation on this potent adversary.

Kylyu. Haggard and skeletal with mottled skin stretched taut over bones, she emerged from her darkness. "So, White Child, you stand before me. At last." Holding her staff tightly, the witch limped to the fire, pulling a strand of Karl's heart. Licking it, biting it, she offered some to Snow White. "Do you prefer charred or still bleeding?"

Wednesday Words: Old Miz Guthrie and the Fire

squirrelOnWireGettya1.jpg

A moratorium was now placed on church potlucks. The last one caused a flash fire when the Barbeque Pit exploded, sending miscellaneous pork bits and ribs, along with Bob’s Secret Ingredient (lots of whiskey) flaming sauce, flying over to Old Miz Guthrie’s tiny old house.

Old Miz Guthrie heard screaming coming her way, and then smelled the barbeque fire on her roof.  “Oh, Lordy, Lordy!  My house ‘s afire!”  As fast as a squirrel on a live wire, she scampered out the door, wringing her hands while the fire department extinguished the barbeque flickers of flame.

No damage done, Old Miz Guthrie thanked everyone, shushing them away, and hurried back inside.  Looking around at her immaculate, nicely decorated home, she raced down the steps to her basement, which was packed with fire-proof chests of gold coins, jewelry (oh, how she love nice jewelry), and packs of one-hundred bills.

Unbeknownst to the community, Old Miz Guthrie was quite a spendthrift made possible by her late husband’s last bank robbery in 1955 in Chicago.  I better get outta this town.

The next day her brother Raffert showed up at night with a big van and they moved everything from the basement during the big school dance.  Just before she closed the front door, Old Miz Guthrie turned the cooker on high, with bright flames crawling to a dishtowel.

The town mourned for her. Damned BBQ sauce.

When You Are Old

A Star Filled Night
starry starry night
When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire,
Take down this book
And slowly read and dream
Of the soft look your eyes had once,

And of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,

But one man

Loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down
Beside the glowing bars,

Murmur, a little sadly,
How love fled,
And paced upon the mountains overhead

And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

Rain! Glorious rain!! Where are you,..

Wet….damp…drops…freshness…gray skies…water…rain…rain….

The Southwest is a tinder box of dry brown crispy vegetation.

Here are some photos of the last rain we had.  It was utterly wonderful.

Can you see the lines of rain??

The ferns were turning brown.

Ignore the pool toys--grandkids, what can I say?

Joy, pure joy.

Are you watching the skies for rain clouds?

Follow the Road

forest paths: none
Source: Mimica
Parker had fought against conformity all his life. When his friends followed a road to the left, Parker turned to the right. Contrary, said his mother, just downright contrary.  Odd boy.

Roads lead in all directions, he reasoned.  Truthfully, roads led everywhere, up and down, over and under.

Parker cupped the delicate fire of adventure close to his heart.  He followed a yearning to climb distant peaks and to consider faraway lands. Walking with a rucksack over his shoulder, he set out.

In this solitude, Parker recognized how fragile, how brief time was.  So many people with such different lives walked their own roads with their own rucksacks.

In time Parker climbed one last peak. Grizzled and gray, he smiled at roads not taken.  Roads caught in a snapshot in time would continue, but he would not.

His road had come to an end.

Wednesday Words: Lucille

Source
All that Lucille had loved, collected, and cherished was gone in a flash.  The first edition prints, her collections of dried flowers indigenous to the prairie, and even the earliest collectible Troll© dolls were destroyed in a blaze of white hot heat.

Her dismay hemmed her in so tightly that Lucille could scarcely breathe.  Only the ringing of the dinner triangle from the bunkhouse broke through her shock. It was then that she realized that she still had her battered jeep and plastic/credit cards.

All was not lost after all.

P. S. Again, kudos to Delores @Under the Porch Light for again stumping some of the most brilliant minds in all Christendom with her wily words.  Please access her site by clicking on the peaceful stream on the right sidebar.  This will lead you to some awesome writers.
