Torch in the Dark Fount

Custom Pro Floating Pond & Pool Tiki Torch| FIRE on WATER!

Flynn struggled with creating meaningful narrative in his latest book, Torch in the Dark Fount.

Liam carefully spread his own shawl upon….

Who? Why would he “spread” any shawl upon…? Delete…delete…

Liam grasped his knife and savagely shred the silken shawl ….

A little better….type, type…

Conor presented a fragile white crocus dipped in enemy blood to Warrior Queen Maeve. "The blood of  your enemies, my Queen...
"

Ah, much better, Finn decided.  With a chest filled with pride, he headed to his kitchen.

He did not push save, something he would regret in a few hours.

However, Finn Liam did not push save, something he would regret in a few hours. Rookie mistake, but it was not Finn's Liam's first.

Sagas Still Continue

Drama as it never was. YouTube, 18 seconds

Back in soap opera days, my mother had a sacred hour after mid-day dinner, in which she banned all children from our house, sent us out to do whatever we pleased.  That was when she turned on television, held a cup of coffee, and watched “her” soap operas.

As the World Turns was her favorite with promiscuous Lisa, who was married to Dr. Bob, who had an on-going battle with Dr. John, who maneuvered and manipulated politics in the hospital, often foiled by Dr. Tim…who ultimately died from a blood clot following a broken leg.  She and we all cried that day.

Great sagas like this cannot be matched, until I was grappled and then hooked by Game of Thrones.

Opening theme, 1 min. 41 seconds

Yes, say what you will and I agree.  It is one bloody series, seriously bloody and violent. Betrayal, love and love discarded, torture, massive battles, dark magic, dragons with their dragon Queen, castles with their lords battling for control over the seven kingdoms, and much more exist in this world.

Evil, massive evil plays out here.  Honor and loyalty redeem characters. Oh, I could ramble on, drawing lines (red lines) from one to another.

We have watched the existing six seasons, each with about six ten episodes each.  We have eaten them all up, discussed the characters, etc.  Now we are in a desert. Season seven will not be released until mid-summer.

I guess I will have to find the tome written by George R.R. Martin, who had written Song of Fire and Ice, and then took off from that to create Game of Thrones.

I will do it.  I will read this massive book, just to find out how the Dragon Queen is faring.

Dr. Bob and Dr. John will just have to battle on their own, with Lisa grabbing another lover.

Brothers Prank, #3

adaandanimals.blogspot.com/2006
Another batch of piglets were born, cute little black and white Hampshire oinkers.  Sow rejected all eight of them, every single one.  Not much to do but to hand suckle them with nipples on soda bottles, while they squealed in the large paper box by the washing machine.

So cute, my five year old sister Mary and I held them, deciding on their names.  Life was good for them, giving us a warm glow within.

The box became sodden just in time for the eight to be moved to their own pen.  The brothers (Yes, them.  The Bastards.) were told to take a strip of heavy fencing and construct a round enclosure, stake it down, attach it to the tree, and make an opening to bring a five gallon buck of watery feed to pour into the make-shift trough.
OK Brand Max 50-10 Fence Panel 5ga 50
Just imagine the vertical fence support on the end snipped off...

They took the 10 pm shift and I would take the 3 am shift.

At 3 am, my alarm went off and so did I.  Down the stairs, putting on the wellies/rubber boots, mixing the feed with water, I dragged the heavy 10 gallon bucket to the fence.

Hungry piglets squeal louder than one would think.  And they also charged the opening where food would magically appear. What’ll I do?  What’ll do?  They could get out!..OhwhatllIdo?

Managing to open the fence wire while carrying the bucket was no easy feat. Sharp deep cuts striped across my skinny eleven-year old arm, but I carried on dumping the bucket.

Closing the gate wasn’t easy, but then I could see that the fence wire had been snipped such that the sharp raw ends were left hanging out.

I ran into the house, crying while I heard laughter from upstairs.  Turning on the kitchen light and dripping blood along kitchen linoleum to the sink, I tried not to cry.  But, I wasn't quiet enough.

Mom emerged from her room and gasped at the blood running down my arm.  Mom rarely swore, but she let fly some good words as she cleaned and wrapped my arm. Sending me upstairs, she said she’d “fix it”.

The next morning Dad "fixed it."  He grabbed the two responsible criminals and dragged them out to the pen, showing blood still visible on the sharp edges.  They confessed.  Dad whipped and whaled them, and hard. And then they fixed the opening.

There was a degree of satisfaction to hear justice administered, but a sorrow for I knew the punishment had hurt more than my arm.

The Bastards.

p.s. I still have the deepest scar, on my left arm.

Then and Now...Then......

Siege of Antioch, 1st Crusade
To capture the City of God
Journey of holiness
Painted by in a thick
Line of religion and inquisition.
A quest, a crusade
To rescue what is and is not
Sacred.

Jerusalem and spices.
Gold and silk.
To kill and take.
To kill and take more.

Painted line
Grows wider,
Becomes stronger,
Killing in the name
Of ?what? whom?

Finely penned ink on parchment,
moments captured for history to see,
to judge.

“Then you might have seen many a banner and pennon of various forms floating in the breeze—helmets with crests, brilliant with jewels, and shining mails, and shields, emblazoned with lions, or flying dragons in gold.”

Geoffrey de Vinsauf, itinerary of Richard 1.
Pope Urban II
To do what is right...  Then....

Bloody...Bloodier...Bloodiest

Line painted
By a thick brush
And red paint
Of hate and heretics.
New ideology.  New horror.
Live for all to see,
To judge.

ISIS fighters in June.
...and now

What will be written?  What will be said?  What will be done?  Who can even quess?

Lust in the Library

Dusty Books
Its placement in the sixth shelf of Psychology and Mental Development, 157.391** knew very well that few sought its information.  Dust, in its layers, marked it as one book doomed to be culled and recycled.

Suddenly, 157.391 started traveling.  One young woman checked it out, kept it unread for days, and slipped a discreet note between pages 146 and 147.  Soon 157.391 was refiled to its former spot, where dust had been removed.

Again, only days later, a slightly older man checked it out, repeating the woman’s pattern, only placing another discreet note between pages 258 and 259.  What is happening here? It wondered, experiencing a thrill unto fore known.

Back and forth.  Back and forth.  And then one day…

157.391 was filed in the wrong spot, and not by the librarian.  No, the young woman filed it, hidden in the shadows behind 854 HI***, The Story Road by Gertrude Hildreth.  What the…. It wondered, anxiety building quickly as days  went by.

Pages 364 and 365  possessed nary a note.  The pages were adhered as one.  No, not with glue, but with blood, now dried and brown. Other pages had been soaked with blood with a dagger pressed down into them.

Oh, well.  It was fun while it lasted.

** and*** may or may not be in a library.  The 100 section is for psychology and philosophy.  The 800 is for stories, etc.  There is a book called  The Story Road published in 1947.

Blue to Red, Past to Present

red blood cells
Source
Red from blue,

Blood--the secrets of lives lived

Are always
in blood.

Your blood,

My blood.

Everything to be known
Is in blood.

Past, present, future--

Must search for them--
 in blood.

I may have been watching
too many CSI or Science
documentaries.
However, it also sets up
a novel I am writing, Scent of Sage.
