 This movie was a surprise, in many ways.  With such a boatload of respected actors, it was released to a limited time at some theaters, on Dec. 21, 2021 . It became another movie  on Netflix Dec. 24, three days later.

There are many views of this movie.  Here a few:

"The whole movie really emphasized the pure truth: - how politicians are telling lies - how powerful technology billionaires are - the privilege of rich people - the ignorance of people about scientific threats"

"Idk if I'm over analyzing but my favorite detail about this scene is how he's holding the coffee mug at the end. He has his hand on the hot part not by the handle, almost like a last bit of comfort/distraction, a little warmth, the very thing that brought life in the first place."

 

There are many many comments about this movie, all of them shaking their heads and saying "This looks strangely possible, and the politicians are also strangely scary in the view of their power."

If you have time, watch this.  The comedy is good, message is even better.

So it begins, election nastiness, accusations, and mudslinging have become part of every program on TV.  Has it always been so mean? 

The answer is of course YES. 

 This video looks at a few of historical presidential candidates. It lasts about 8 minutes long, bringing up some of the most common issues and finger pointing.

Take time, watch this, and ask yourself: Has anything changed?

Just how far will this go? Statues have been toppled.  Former presidents have been condemned because they owned slaves in the 1700s. Explorers have been reviewed, revised and censored because their discoveries led to unknown consequences.

Kindness for a Dying Child in Ohio

                    

                                                      Ignoring state regulations

…and now starts the minute by minute examination where contestants will be given close scrutiny and sorted out.  And then…

Exhausting, these election horse races.  Placing bets.  Candidates stock market.  Twiddly winks.  Skip the stone.  Bowling competition. Javelin throws.  These sports hang on millimeters.

Most exhausting is also the dissection process.  Each candidate’s character and personal choices are sliced and diced.  Soon political staffers will find that one candidate cheated on a third grade math test.  That’ll be enough to knock ‘im off presidential sprint (or marathon).

The names are stew-potted in a gooey sauce. Some names will sink to the bottom, others will evaporate. 

However, it seems to me that one previous candidate has been consistent in his political life:  John Kasich. Former Ohio Gov. Kasich has performed responsibilities with honor, character, and kindness. This is NOT an endorsement.

This is  an example of what politics

should be: caring for residents' needs, hold true to your beliefs, communicate with your state. 

Show Kindness to those who are part of the state. Be trustworthy. Be consistent.

But Kindness?

My sister Mary lives in Columbus, Ohio.  A dear friend had two sons dying from untreatable genetic diseases.  The older son had already died, and young “Mike” was not far from him.  Mary and others helped with all the chores that slide by the wayside.

Gov. Kasich read or heard or…about “Mike”.  Kasich began regular visits (once a week maybe) with this family.  He sat down and held the boy’s hand; shared jokes, laughed; and, Gov. Kasich prayed with him.

No photographers or newspaper reporters around.  

When Mike died, Gov. Kasich gave a touching eulogy in a small church, without TV station vans, local news…none.

I seriously doubt that many candidates, GOP or DNC, could write “Kindness” on their resumes.

  This isn't an election promo (altho it could be taken as such); it is simply a telling of how a man did what he could for a dying child. Kindness.

Have you heard of other candidates freely donating their time without publicity?

Sagas Still Continue

Drama as it never was. YouTube, 18 seconds

Back in soap opera days, my mother had a sacred hour after mid-day dinner, in which she banned all children from our house, sent us out to do whatever we pleased.  That was when she turned on television, held a cup of coffee, and watched “her” soap operas.

As the World Turns was her favorite with promiscuous Lisa, who was married to Dr. Bob, who had an on-going battle with Dr. John, who maneuvered and manipulated politics in the hospital, often foiled by Dr. Tim…who ultimately died from a blood clot following a broken leg.  She and we all cried that day.

Great sagas like this cannot be matched, until I was grappled and then hooked by Game of Thrones.

Yes, say what you will and I agree.  It is one bloody series, seriously bloody and violent. Betrayal, love and love discarded, torture, massive battles, dark magic, dragons with their dragon Queen, castles with their lords battling for control over the seven kingdoms, and much more exist in this world.

Evil, massive evil plays out here.  Honor and loyalty redeem characters. Oh, I could ramble on, drawing lines (red lines) from one to another.

We have watched the existing six seasons, each with about six ten episodes each.  We have eaten them all up, discussed the characters, etc.  Now we are in a desert. Season seven will not be released until mid-summer.

I guess I will have to find the tome written by George R.R. Martin, who had written Song of Fire and Ice, and then took off from that to create Game of Thrones.

I will do it.  I will read this massive book, just to find out how the Dragon Queen is faring.

Dr. Bob and Dr. John will just have to battle on their own, with Lisa grabbing another lover.

If I Had a Hammer....

Long, so very long ago when I was in 7^th grade, a popular song was “If I Had a Hammer” by Peter, Paul, and Mary.  My friends and I were becoming more aware of social and political events, and this song spoke to this new discovery. 

We would sing this song non-stop during lunch break until the rest of the class told us/threatened us to stop.  But the words still rang and I remembered them for years.

Now, I look at that song and wonder what I would do if I had a hammer.  

I am now a realist, where then I was a dreamer.  

I am a conservative, where back then I was a pure socialist.  

My dreams are more esoteric, where then my dreams seemed unlimited.

What would I do with that dang hammer?  Being pragmatic/practical, I would repair the balcony.  I would build a fairy play house for my granddaughters.  My hammer would be used to smash irritating nails or pots or blocks of rock-hard ice.

What would you do with your own dang hammer?  Are you still a dreamer and think of your own hammer metaphorically?
