Trip of a life time

Jerry had packed a suitcase weeks ago, checked off days on his Hot Babes calendar, and read everything possible about Yellowstone National Park.  This had been his lifelong dream, so much so that he had saved intensely for fifteen years. I can scarcely believe it...Yellowstone! Yellowstone, at last!

Jerry sprinted to catch his Bus, tripped over a case left on the sidewalk by a curvy blonde and fell hard on his knee.  Even though his scrape bled like a son of a gun, Jerry stopped to put his packed suitcase into the belly of the beast.  The case popped open, spraying his clothing onto dripping oil by the bus.  Hot Babes was forever disfigured.

Finally, the elderly bus rattled out onto freeway from Burton, Florida, heading straight to Yellowstone.  In 30 minutes or so,the poor bus wheezed to a stop, and all could see the radiator boiling ,sending steam straight up.

Jerry felt his colon cramp and his stomach become a knotty mass of anxiety.

When the bus rattled back to station, Jerry was nearly crying.  While there had never been any sort of competition between calendar to calendar, Jerry had kept years of Hot Babes calendars, crossing off days after days.  This was the month...the month...

Yellowstone Ash Deposits (Yell.1936)
How far can it go?
While this is a blurry map, it does show the extent when the caldera blows.  Bad news for all.

Ironically, the next day it was announced that the immense caldera beneath Yellowstone Park blew, exploded, blasting apart all states from Canada to Texas, Nevada to Illinois, over to Oregon and down the western coast, and all parts in between. Clouds of ash covered the skies around the world.

Jerry's head hung down despondently.  Gone, it was gone.  As he tacked his new Hot Babes calendar, Jerry pondered where he would go instead.  Iceland?  Iceland would be nice...He crossed off another day, heading toward Iceland in a decade or so.

Oh, Jerry, poor uninformed Jerry.

This is a Wed. Words story, underlined words from 2022. We love watching shows like this.  Dante's Peak is a movie that portrays a volcano disaster with finesse. Basically we like natural disaster movies.  Why? I have no idea.

The three winds

Drangey Bird Cliff in North-Iceland and the Viking Grettir the Strong

On the island of βrju Vindúr, life was defined by directions of three winds. A treacherous wind blew in from the ocean, while bitter cold wind swept down from mountains.  Winds from valleys sneaked in over green hills, blasting unexpectedly.

One at a time would have been acceptable, but usually two or three gusted through the town of Bakkafjörður all at once.  Merely walking up or down a street necessitated clinging to a wall, or hanging on for dear life on a ship rope strung along streets.

Needless to say, villagers were noted for exceptional muscular development.  Even so, none could walk up or down streets without assistance.  However, one man had this skill, and he mocked other villagers as he strolled along, hands in pockets, posture straight.  Only his hair waved as winds blew.

Eiður was such a man.  No humility existed in him.  Pride emanated off him. Oh, how others grew to hate him.

He had the chance to leave the island on a ship delivering goods (as you can imagine little could be grown there).  Hopping aboard, he waved at villagers who wished all sorts evil to descend upon him.

Eiður returned after a month with big smiles and stories to tell.  But he had no idea that a month away from three winds had changed him.

He stepped off the ship and was immediately thrown to his hands and knees.  Trying stand up, Eiður found himself again creeping like a dog along streets to his house.  He could not stand.  He could not pull himself up on the ropes.

From there on, Eiður moved from one spot to another, crawling.  Villagers watched him.  Justification was theirs.

This story is strictly metaphorical.  No such island exists in Iceland, altho there are many other amazing islands and land forms! This was originally posted in 2014, and then in 2019.

Had hand surgery on Sept. 7, so I am pulling posts from the vault.  Please leave a comment! My hands will be itching to write, so I will be reading your comments.

His blonde hair waved as winds blew and his muscles bulged. He was gorgeous and he knew it.

Eiður was such a man.  No humility existed in him.  Pride emanated off him. Oh, how villagers grew to hate him.

He had the chance to leave the island on a ship off-loading goods, ready to on- load sheep and wool for export.  Hopping aboard, he waved at villagers who wished all sorts evil to descend upon him.

No such island exists in Iceland, altho there are many other amazing islands and landforms! It is on our "Let's go.." list.  My apologies to the native Icelandic speakers. No insult was intended.

We will be heading to visit my brother in Cow Chipping country for a few days. Please leave comments if you can (even though I won't respond) simply because I enjoy hearing from you.
