The AxMan survives.

Snow on window frame hi-res stock photography and images - Alamy

Snow fell with a vengeance.  Indoors, forester "AxMan" Clement thought about the loaded supplies, ready to last for two calendar weeks. He looked at the snow, Clement made the decision and opened the door.  “I’m going out to get the milk and doughnuts, honey!” Pregnancy demands, husband obeys.

Clement heard a familiar sound.  He looked up, just in time to witness a potential tragedy.

Top of the tree swayed, as if undecided, out of balance.   The "AxMan" below nervously ran away.  Success is when an AxMan survives.

These are Wednesday Words from long ago. are from there. I am guessing this was back in 2013 or so.

Apocalyptic Christmas Gift

How To Survive The Zombie Apocalypse: The Complete Guide To Urban Survival, Prepping and Zombie Defense. by [Jackson, Ben]

2016 was a momentous time for us. After my husband's mother died, we felt a tie being broken. That was when we decided we could move. We had been in our house for 27 years, our children were adults far away, and we needed to be in a community where we could settle for our (hopefully long) senior years.

Box after box, Goodwill trips, trash bins were all part of the experience until we handed our life over to the moving company. Soon our new house was a wall of boxes.

Finding another box to unpack had become routine in our new house. At first there would be a "OhLookatThis!" then there would be a moment of discovery and/or disappointment.  With big sighs or sadness, the box was either unpacked OR closed up to be pitched out.  When will  this stop, I had asked.  When. Will. This. Stop.

“Ah-Ah.”

This was one of the many strange boxes, one that had been hidden in garage rafters, where dust and mites had settled.  Movers had followed blind orders and brought this one to here. On the lid of a battered cardboard box  were words written in our son’s peculiar handwriting, with his peculiar humor. This was a Christmas present for his father.

“If Zombies or commies or Red Chinese attack or Christmas 2013 comes first: Break the seals and open.  Open and prepare your body for Thunder Dome (That is probably the new law).”

I did open the lid, but all the warnings did not come to fruition. Written upside down (for the unfortunate opener) were directions:

(on one side) “These are for laundry, tourniquets, and needless hangings” with an arrow pointing down.

(next side) “Done cleaning? Make your broom do double duty to kill zombies.” Arrow pointing down.

(Last side) “ Instrumental CD which was a combination of music from Jaws + Dune + 1812 Overture.

Strangely, the only contents of the box missing were only the broom (s), but included two pair of binoculars.  And it did include some awesome knives, which were apparently the real present for his father that Christmas.

Our son has grown to have a successful life and career, become a husband and father. and has maintained his peculiar sense of humor.

Do we still have some boxes? I know that we do, but it may take a while to find them.  And then what, I ask.

Walking Strong

Drangey Bird Cliff in North-Iceland and the Viking Grettir the Strong

On the island of βrju Vindúr, life was defined by directions of three winds. A treacherous wind blew in from the ocean, while bitter cold wind swept down from mountains.  Winds from valleys sneaked in over green hills, blasting unexpectedly.

One gust at a time would have been acceptable, but usually two or three gusted through the town of Bakkafjörður all at once.  Merely walking up or down a street necessitated clinging to a wall, or hanging on for dear life on a ship rope strung along streets.

Needless to say, villagers were noted for exceptional muscular development.  Even so, none could walk up or down streets without assistance.  However, one man had this skill, and he mocked other villagers as he strolled along, hands in pockets, posture straight. His blonde hair waved as winds blew and his muscles bulged. He was gorgeous and he knew it.

Eiður was such a man.  No humility existed in him.  Pride emanated off him. Oh, how villagers grew to hate him.

He had the chance to leave the island on a ship off-loading goods, ready to on- load sheep and wool for export.  Hopping aboard, he waved at villagers who wished all sorts evil to descend upon him.

Eiður returned after a month with big smiles and stories to tell.  But he had no idea that a month away from three winds had changed him.

He stepped off the ship and was immediately thrown to his hands and knees.  Trying stand up, Eiður found himself again creeping like a dog along streets to his house.  He could not stand.  He could not pull himself up on the ropes.

From there on, Eiður moved from one spot to another, crawling.  Villagers watched him.  Justification was theirs.

Keldur, where there is still a Viking age floor in the hall.
Company of Heroes

This story is strictly metaphorical. Pride does go before a crawl.

No such island exists in Iceland, altho there are many other amazing islands and landforms! It is on our "Let's go.." list.  My apologies to the native Icelandic speakers. No insult was intended.

We will be heading to visit my brother in Cow Chipping country for a few days. Please leave comments if you can (even though I won't respond) simply because I enjoy hearing from you.

Sjἁumst sἰðar  See you later.

Wednesday Words: 12-12-12

Mayan ruins Source

We are doomed, or so the Mayans predicted.  Or did they?  Maybe some stone chiseler decided to take a break and forgot to get back to finishing the Stone of Doom.  I don't know.

So here are words to ponder:

calendar      decision      supplies     loaded     ready    door

I really have no plan for these words myself.  My husband was watching "The Twelve Days to Destruction" over the weekend, while I was locked on my Hallmark Christmas shows.  So I guess we will have to wait until 12-21-12 and see what happens.
