Fame Goes at the Fall

It was time for yet another illustrious Hollywood affair, complete with the fabled Red Carpet and pushy paparazzi.  Click!  Click!  Snap!  Flash!  Those were the sounds and flashes that tickle the hopefuls with hopes of fame.

Then cameras turned as another black limo braked at the foot of the Red Carpet.  The door opened as long shapely legs stretched out. Gabriela Chance emerged into the flashing lights, a statuesque beauty, the Flavor of the week in a world of gorgeous actresses.

Gabriela Chance displayed her fantastic Atwood psychedelic boots, laced to mid-thigh….”

She sauntered down the Carpet, smiling, blowing kisses as reporters called out to her.

The prestigious event was going so well, until Gabriela Chance tripped, falling against the glamorous actress in front of her, who toppled into the next.

Eventually  twelve ever-hopeful beauties ended up sprawled on the Red Carpet.

It was an epic revealing fashion mishap moment for all. Click! Click!
Flash!...

On hands and knees, attempting to rise gracefully, Gabriela Chance discovered that boots really were made for walking, and precious little else.

One reporter sighed.  “Another one bites the dust…I hope she has other career options."

This is a repost of May 2015 Wednesday Words, probably one of the earliest posts on that.  There is no Gabriela Chance that I know of, it's a nice name.

And, down I fall, fall, fall.

Gotta respect the cat
Take a fall, I will,
Up or down,
Stairs or flat path,
Fall, I will.

Some say it is a talent,
Some say it is a curse,
And I just say
Fall, I will.

Not a tumble, no.
Not a trip, no.
But a full on down you go,
Fall, I will.

You ask why I claim
That I will fall.
You may wonder
Why I will fall.

God only knows.
I wish it were not so.
But this I can tell you:
Fall, I will.

You Tube: stunt man shows how to be safe when falling

My children and grandchildren have commented about my falling (which has been near disastrous) many a time. I shrug my shoulders and say the above.

This is a repost from August 2014, probably after one fall.  The latest was just a few days ago. I must let my back rest after falling.  Sneezing is the hardest. Please leave comments!

First Date

It begins so early, when a boy and girl meet.  Their eyes connect, hormones rise to the top, and tuh-duh!  It all goes from there.

Grandson Benjamin and unknown floozy

But, must it start so early?  When both are still in diapers/nappies?  When running without falling is an accomplishment?  When words are understood by the parents, and few other people?

I guess it does.

Falling is an Art

Waterfall 5: it's a waterfall in the bears habitat in Emmen Zoo

God has a way of creating magnificent falls.  These on the left (photographed by Ruben Tiben and Kevin Tuck beside that) are only some of very memorable falls.
But
the word falls has so many meanings: the one above and now the one below.

Over the years, I have made some spectacular falls, all due to tripping over some unseen object.  Some ended badly with a broken something or other and/or finding myself drifting back to consciousness.

But this time…it was great, because my granddaughters were there to see it.

My granddaughters and had spent about 45 minutes (by my reckoning) and about 15 by theirs swimming. Not paying attention as I dried off, I stubbed my toe on an uneven piece of concrete and went flying.

At least that is what the girls told me. Flying, Grandma, Flying!!

In reality, I went down hard on my right knee, and remembered to roll not sprawl. So there I was lying on my back, holding up some decking that has been standing at that corner for about 5 years.

The girls were screaming OH-GRANDMA-ARE-YOU-OKAY?  They really didn't want the moment to end, but finally went to get my husband.
scraped-knee
This looks like my knee at present.

They squealed as grandpa hosed me off, and as the blood streamed down my leg.  They skipped along side me as we made for the bathroom.

THEN they took turns pouring hydrogen peroxide on my knee.  Oh, the bubbles!  How they loved when my scrape bubbled, while I gritted my teeth.

Interest dropped off went it came to bandaging and stuff.

Waterfall: A waterfall.
RWLinder
As falls go, I did quite well on this one.  But these below are far more impressive.

And then.... this fall is just around the corner.

Stupid Things I Have Done: #348

photo courtesy of Bing.com; sky courtesy of God

Yesterday I found myself lying by the pool under a cerulean sky.  The sun had not reached its apogee, and the air still had that early morning feel.  The concrete’s warmth seeped into me slowly, toasting all the parts of my body that ached.  Soon the sun would creep over the roof of our house, and I would spend the rest of the day doing—doing what, I wondered.

Not my pool...someone else has it.
I trailed my left hand through the coolness of the pool’s water, wishing I had thought to put on a suit and go swimming.  Instead I was lying on my back and thinking one particular thought.

‘What the hell just happened!!’

I do not swear, even under the most extreme circumstances, and then only when I am alone.  At that moment, I was in too much agony to summon up more than some sincere moans.

Accidents usually happen quickly, like the strike of a rattlesnake.  This one was a true slow sprawl, but one that I could not veer away from or avoid.

The events leading up to this were so uninteresting: the pool needed water, and I went outside to turn on the spigot.  Then I noticed that the strainer basket had some stray leaves that needed to be emptied.  I knelt down on both knees and reached into the strainer, pulled out the leaves.  This is when everything “…went to hell in a hand basket…”, as my father-in-law used to say.
Note: bruising down the palm!

When I moved to stand up, I forgot that my right ankle was kinda broken, and that it wouldn’t support me.  “OH, NO!” was all I could say as I sprawled gracelessly forward.  My right knee came down the two inches to the concrete, then the right side of my ribs, and finally my right hand.
Note: bulge below little finger

After I hit, I rolled onto my back, groaning in utter pain and in total frustration.

That was when I noticed the sky.

Author’s note:  Ribs are okay, just bruised.  X-ray of right hand doesn’t show any broken bones that Dr. can see.  Just have a severe sprain, and OH-BOY-HOWDY, that hurts like nobody’s business.
