When it falls....

The timbers felt strong, even though the boards were fading from red to gray.  The tin roof had held up for decades, but even it was starting to doubt its integrity.

The weeds around the outside appeared to be holding the barn up, with so many vines and creepers.  The silent dust-mote interior spoke of cows, hay, empty feed sacks, and hidden bottles.

How much longer can it stand?  Even it doesn’t know.

Our old barn was built in the 1860s in Nebo, Illinois. In the 1950s, we raced and climbed in it, doing scary and dangerous things.  So much fun. In the 1980s it was starting to sway so it had to be taken down. So sad. This photo is one taken in the 70s.

Spirit in the Sky

Towers as dust rises

Pillars of creation

Brilliant light consumes

Divided and torn

Infants emerge

Fire explodes

Streams of gas

Towering peaks

Arrows sail

This is a re-post from 2016. "Dragon" has landed at the Space Station, a new crew off loaded.  Now the two abandoned station crew will be carried home by this unique space craft. Poor people! They have been there for 8 months and have had to put up with each other all that time Could you do it? Could you get stuck somewhere and cannot be rescued for months? I don't know.  Maybe..

Triumph or Defeat or Both

Though we may march
In triumph,
Or
Slump along
In defeat,
A road is still a road
Going in both
Directions
And
Is formed from
Dust.

Wednesday Words

Today is Monday, November 05, 2012, the day before the Presidential Election.

This has been like a long pregnancy when the mother-to-be is two weeks overdue.  A friend of mine experienced that with her first child.  She became so distressed and overwrought that she decided she would be pregnant forever.  Her husband came home to discover her dismantling the crib and packing away baby clothes.

Oh, she had the baby a day or so later.  She was an extremely intelligent woman with a PhD in English.  But, there comes a time…

These are my Wednesday Words for my November 7, 2012 post,  words that have been batted around until they are shredded and weary:

Slump       Triumphant      March      Defeat    Direction
                                                Dust

The last word “Dust” has been used before, I realize.  But I am surrounded by dust in my dusty house.  Since the dust doesn’t leave despite my efforts, it will be included in another post.

Westerns and Dreams Fulfilled

From me:

A drifter brushed dust from his chaps and squinted at the line of Mexican tile over the cantina door.  “This’ll do.”  He strode through the doorway as an antique piano played.   He noticed photos of Pat Garrett and Billy.  “Damn you, Billy.”  The drifter left, thirst unquenched.

This writing no way implies that Mr. Eastwood did such in any movie.

From Delores:

Crystal was dreaming of a place where her skills would be valued.  Cloaked in white, she glided down a narrow trail in to a misty world of wishful thinking.

Wednesday Words

Welcome to Wednesday Word Day!

Delores initiated this 50 flash fiction event, where a group of 5-6 words are posted, and bloggers created a piece of fiction.  What will you do?

My words for this week:

Dust       piano      Photos    antiques       tile     lines

See what you can make of these words!
