Already stores are setting out Christmas decor. No more ghosts or witches haunt stores. Halloween night is a few hours away, so best hurry, get the good candy (chocolate for yourself, and Jolly Rogers) before ragged monsters and fairy princesses knock at your door.
But, for little children, there is no bigger joy than sitting
on one’s first pumpkin. And we adults
are awed by their smiles. Oh, sure, they like the candy, but sitting on a pumpkin will always be a photo op, a fond memory.
They create a great photo op and memory indeed

I hope you got the good chocolate, not Hersheys. Godiva, Dove, Cadbury...
DeleteSitting on pumpkins is a thing? I've never seen that done. I guess I'm sheltered.

DeleteI liked the chocolate I ate, before I gave the rest to a village resident with trick or treat tonight, not last Saturday. My granddaughter painted five different faces on her pumpkin, and turns it around to yield a different view daily.

DeleteI didn't know if Trick or Treat etc. was celebrated in England. It sure wasn't when we lived there but that's a long time ago. I don't ever remember seeing pumpkins for sale either. But then that was 40 years ago. I have now lived here longer than in the UK.
ReplyDeleteIn Ireland, All Hallow's Eve was a holy day. Pumpkins were imported from France, and were for cooking. We held our own mini-tricktreat at our house.
DeleteI don't know if that has changed yet.
Halloween is over here now, the stores have their stocks at half price and Christmas things are very evident on the shelves, reminding me that I must soon buy Christmas Cards.

ReplyDeleteCan't say I've ever sat on a pumpkin, but I have sat on a tuffet and fortunately was not accosted by any spiders.
ReplyDeleteOur God is an awesome God. Pumpkins are further evidence of His amazing creation. You can't convince me that pumpkins evolved from a potato or whatever.

Tossing It Out
I am certain there are pumpkins still around in those tents, and you could find a large one there. Tuffets are supposedly comfort.

I love it! I wanted to grow my own pumpkin patch when I was a kid. I agree, there's something almost magical about them. Never planted my pumpkin patch, but I've still got a lot of years to live.
ReplyDeleteMy parents planted some pumpkin seed, and their vines spread. Slowly they died off until there was only one dinky green yellow pumpkin. My brothers smashed it. Don't delay!

thanks for your comment! Pumpkins are versatile in so many recipes. Native Americans called corn, beans, and pumpkins the "three sisters". Great history.
