Every single time the new round of TV shows appears, I wonder how in the world THIS idea made it through the sorting process and WHO dreamed this up.
The new program in this line-up is “Dominion” on
cable SyFy, and it is a winner, according to advertisements. It has been renewed for another season and has a substantial web site, heavily loaded with darkness.
The plot line is that God has disappeared (Oh, come on! Really?) for some unknown reason, and the Angels are looking for Him. Understandably, the Archangels Michael and
Gabriel are the most upset, as they are the God's angel sons.
And then there is also "Defiance", on SyFy.
The plot line here is that Earth has been all but destroyed by an alien force. The action setting is in the ruins of St. Louis, Missouri.
The famous Arch teeters, as a symbol of society itself.

I really don't know what else to say.
I find these are just another dystopic, society-in-ruins shows, joining the ranks of so many other post-apocalyptic messes.
This all amazes me and dismays me.
Is this what entertainment has become?
Thankfully, our God reigns. He truly does. He has not disappeared.
Today we have so many channels to watch, but there is so little I want to see.
ReplyDeleteWe are finding we watch more Netflix than TV, or least it seems that way. With a few exceptions, there are few programs worth our time.

DeleteI don't really consider those kinds of shows to be scifi, to me their more fantasy. Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica... now THOSE are scifi shows!
ReplyDeleteThe SiFi channel is the only channel they seem to fit on, I guess. I love Star Trek, even the old re-runs.

Right now, my husband is watching "The Strain" before he goes to work. I can over-hear the program, which is bad enough.
DeleteYep, all doom and gloom. Gone are the days of fun sci fi its seems. Now all we get is another cookie cutter show. Syfy channel sucks now. Supernatural already did everything they are doing in a few episodes and they have fun with it.

DeleteThe premise of Dominion is indeed a weird one. I watch more TV now than in the years when had a job, but still I don't watch much. And when I do find something that I like it often is taken off the air without resolution.

I still don't know how Lost in Space ends...maybe it was taken off the air before the final episode?

I don't watch much TV at all. Spend more time on the computer, listening to much.
DeleteAmen. God has NOT disappeared. In fact, it astounds me yet how patient He is with this horrible world! If that isn't love, what is? Television seems to be one mockery after another of His name and character and law. While I've never been into sci-fi or fantasy, I can agree it used to be "innocent" but now it's not.

DeleteReligion believes in miracles, science does not. I'm a betting man - I believe in both. Lurking beyond the edge of space something powerful is waiting for us.

ReplyDeleteSo there is no need for people to go knocking door to door asking people if they have 'found' God? To which I always reply, "is He lost again??"

DeleteDefiance was an interesting concept. The first season was fairly entertaining. Dystopian, sure. It was interesting how the aliens and the humans coexisted. This season has gotten to the point where I'm not really watching it anymore, though. Went a bit too dark.

DeleteI'm stuck on God disappearing. Doesn't that go against everything we think we know about Him? Crazy weird.
