Gift given

Large Vintage Ultramarine Blue & Turquoise Brutalist Ceramic image 1
Great Aunt Evangeline always visited on my birthday, as regular as calendar and clock. Auntie E was full of so many things, most of them really irritating.  Adages? She had them. Shameless bragging? Overload there. A hoard of wisdom?  Good there, too.

Auntie E was a bland plain woman, with legs like stems. So utterly huge to the point of bursting, her size dominated any room. A successful business woman, she owned her own brokerage, always possessing great insight on sales and trends. And, believe it or not, that lady had a great golf swing

Yet, for all the things I hated about her, I loved her for them. In so many ways, Auntie E was a vessel of kindness to all she knew. While I possessed just a vestige of humanity, Auntie E loved and was loved, cared and was cared for, gave and then was given.

I was none of those things. Still am. Yet, I will continue trying.

The smallest act of kindness...

Needs of the Day

At one time or another, very young children need to express themselves, using their words, while other children throw themselves on the floor. The dropping to the floor and high wailing is irritating , if not infuriating. But we are the adults. We are the ones in charge.

These future adults are honing their skills in action and in words.

This video is 6 minutes long, worth every second!  This man is very wise.

From America's Funniest Video, about 1:30.
I wonder what became of this boy?

Remember: you are an adult. You do not throw tantrums. You do not stomp off and slam doors. You do not throw yourself on the floor.  You control yourself.  How is this working out for you? Oh, go ahead, cut loose!

Sassy. Oh, yeah.

Pinterest.com
I have discovered a great site for me, for I am empress of sassiness.  Anyway, the following paragraphs are from that Sassy Senior FB site:

I found this timely, because today I was in a shoe store that sells only shoes, nothing else. A young girl with a tattoo and green hair walked over to me and asked, "What brings you in today? I looked at her and said, "I'm interested in buying a refrigerator." She didn't quite know how to respond, had that deer in the headlights look.

I was thinking about old age and decided that old age is when you still have something on the ball, but you are just too tired to bounce it.

When people see a cat's litter box they always say, "Oh, have you got a cat?" I just say, "No, it's for company!"

Employment application blanks always ask who is to be called in case of an emergency. I think you should write, "An ambulance."

The older you get the tougher it is to lose weight because by then your body and your fat have gotten to be really good friends.

The easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a replacement.

Have you ever noticed: The Roman Numerals for forty (40) are XL.

The sole purpose of a child's middle name is so he knows when he's really in trouble.

Did you ever notice that when you put the 2 words "The" and "IRS" together it spells "Theirs?"

Aging: Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me.

I want people to know why I look this way.

I've traveled a long way and a lot of the roads were not paved.

You know you are getting old when everything either dries up, sags or leaks.

Ah! Being young is beautiful but being old is comfortable.

Lord, keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth.

May you always have:

Love to share,

Cash to spare,

Tires with air,

And friends who care.

From Sassy Senior Society

It is serendipitous to happen onto something that is just what you want or need. This was one of those: clever with a fair amount of humor which makes me wish I had written something like it.

Stay well, work in the garden, walk in green woods, and love one another.

Cows are wells of wisdom.

Swiss cows grazing just outside town

On a farm, cows are not pets in any way shape or form. Oh sure, when they are calves, they are sweet, fun to stroke. But just you wait, things change.

This poem is from "On the Bright Side" Bright side, good thoughts.

All I ever needed to know I learned from a cow.

If it’s good, milk it for all its worth
Sucessful people are moo-vers and shakers
Don’t just be one of the herd.
The cream always rises to the top
Don’t stoop to a barnyard mentality
Don’t be bossy
It’s better to have milked and churned than to have never milked at all.
If you need to get somewhere, hoof it.
Some days can e udder frustration
If you’re feeling low, moo yourself a little song
Chew your food 50 times before swallowing.
Don’t let others corral you.
Munch hay while the sun shines.
He who lives with the herd learns to watch his step
Following your heart will always steer you in the right direction.
Party till the cows come home!
Live for-heifer young
Here a moo, there a moo, everywhere is moo moo

A Vessel of Love

The smallest act of kindness...

This is a repost from 2016. I will be visiting family, so have turned off the comment section. No more posts will be up until or return in mid-May.

The underlined words are from a Wednesday Word challenge created by Delores to challenge writers.

Great Aunt Evangeline always visited on my birthday, as regular as calendar and clock. Auntie E was full of so many things, most of them really irritating.  Adages? She had them. Shameless bragging? Overload there. A hoard of wisdom?  Oh, boy, you betcha.

Auntie E was a bland plain woman, with legs like stems. The rest of her was utterly huge to the point of bursting; her size dominated any room.

A successful business woman, she owned her own brokerage, always possessing great insight on sales and trends. And, believe it or not, that lady had a great golf swing. Oh, yes she did. She was wicked with a nine iron.

Yet, for all the things I hated about her, I loved her for them. In so many ways, Auntie E was a vessel of kindness to all she knew. While I possessed just a vestige of humanity, Auntie E loved and was loved, cared and was cared for, gave and then was given..

I was none of those things. Still am. But, I'm working on it.

We are visiting our gr-kids and have turned off the comment section. Will be back soon.

Rejoice! Sock Drawer Rejoices!

There are no
skeletons in my
closet... I do
however keep a
tiny black box of
souls in my sock
drawer....
The Truth Will Out
None knew of this mystic land, the Drawer of Socks.

It had, of course, existed for decades in Drawers across the world. But, this Drawer had discovered a unique bond never heard of in the Land of Drawers.
It all began with the single and wise hospital sock named Posey.

Posey was a hospital sock, its rubber treads cracking and colors fading.  Over the years, Posey had been worn to a fair-the-well, with her faithful mate lost in some distant past. How did she become aware of sock existences?

Consciousness struck her all at once, in a world of intense heat, when fabric softener was forgotten by the massive being who moved socks from one place to another. Crackles of static electricity shattered her to the very threads and when she was returned to the Sock drawer, her existence took on new meaning.

Posey migrated through out the Sock drawer, sharing her static to all socks within. Moments of confusion erupted and then singing. Socks surrounded Posey, shouting, "Oh, Wise One! You have created life. You have changed our silence and dimness into joy!"

Mated socks rolled over to her and nestled, matchless socks hugged her.

"Silence, dear ones! We must find who and what we now are! Rejoice and discover our new life! I must confer with the Compression Socks who have existed and seen more of the world outside our dark walls."

Rejoice they did. A new life awaited them. Adventures beyond their silence would now become theirs for the exploring.

Posey viewed them all, filled with benevolent love.

In 2012, I created their world and gave them sententious life. Today, I searched frantically for wool stock mates for an adventure. Static crackled and sparks of electricity erupted.

So, I unearthed them and wrote this prequel. Knowing there will be more re-written episodes, this gave me unspeakable joy.
