Israel, God's people

Draiman with his son

Disturbed, with Draiman singing the Israel anthem.

David Draiman is Jewish, was educated in Israel, studied in America.

                                                        The Light with David Draiman

Each is about 3 min. long, worth listening to at least part of it.  This is a real departure from what I had heard before. His voice is hypnotic.

I met the Disturbed music quite by accident. It was my 10 yr. old gr-daughter who showed me the new cover of Sound of Silence played some selections that I really enjoyed.

Thing is that if I had not fallen in love with David Draiman and his powerful voice, I would never have gone to find his work, even listened to him. Happy accidents.

One of the guitarists brought his 9 yr old
son, Justin Donegan's birthday. One time
Draiman introduced his pregnant wife with
her pregnant belly.  He was so proud of his
family, and his love for them is awesome.

 HERE: some about his training.

Draiman was trained to be a cantor, given the voice.  "As a child I had trained as a cantor, who leads the Jewish congregation in prayer, so I’d had quite a bit of vocal training. And that’s still with me to this day."

Daiman considered studying Law or becoming a rabbi. He felt his interest in becoming a rabbi was discarded.  He studied law, planning to become a lawyer, but his voice and talent were not in a law book.

Before David Draiman became famous as the singer of the heavy metal band Disturbed, he trained to be a cantor. That didn’t go so well. Growing up in Chicago, he was expelled from three different yeshivas, and after a rowdy night of Purim drinking as a teenager, he blew up his high school rabbi’s van.

I know that Disturbed is a rock band of some fame, which I am just discovering.
Just really enjoyed listening to his voice and songs. The musicians are incredibly
talented
 His voice fills the stadium.

There you have it. I have fallen in love Disturbed and David Draiman.

Watching the war in Israel and Palestine, how can we not
be horrified

History teaches so much. Sadly the younger university
students seem to be skewed. Lack of understanding history will
doom generations whose minds reach only so far.

Pray for the Israel. Pray for its people.

Ukrainian Courage

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy during an interview with Reuters in Kyiv, March 1. REUTERS/Umit Bektas

The leader and hero of a nation is a brave man who loves his country. It takes a brave man committed to his nation to wear a helmet.

                                        Volodymyr Zelenskyy

I watched Walter Cronkite when I was not yet aware of the world's disasters. JFK assignation? Vietnam? Some other battle somewhere else?

But then the words he said and the photos that were shown revealed that life on the farm was insulated from that part of our history. I knew nothing.

“When the will defies fear, when duty throws the gauntlet down to fate, when honor scorns to compromise with death – that is heroism.” unknown quote

Heroes are not just ones out on the battlefield, they are brave souls who rise to the occasion to save other souls.

Home! Come home!

Helicopters fly
Gray and Green
Against a gray sky

Whoom-puh, Whoompuh

Blades cut through air
Shake leaves
Rattle glass
People watch from below.

Fly at night
Fly in day
Going where?  When?
Today, tomorrow.

Young men, young women
Sons and daughters all
Fly across
Desert ground, look down.

Whoom-puh, Whoompuh

Beating of their hearts
And
Beating of blades:
Same sound.

Camp Pendleton is just 20-30 miles from us.  When we lived even closer, we could hear war maneuvers. Helicopters, munitions, half-tracks on the beach---something was about to happen.  Here, huge batches of Cipro were being stored in warehouses, ready for possibility of poisonous weapons being fired.

So, why is this being posted now?

Our men and women are coming home! After 20 years, they are coming home.

Wednesday Words: Medic! Corpsman!

Source
Staff Sgt. “Buffalo” Bill Wheeler slung his army duffel over his shoulder, every inch a dignified soldier. Passing the baggage claim carousel, he stepped outdoors onto the cold cement where buses and taxis created clouds of diesel and roars of engines.

Sounds grabbed, yanking him back.

Frenzied screams tore through the smoke.  “MEDIC!  Medic...Corpsman, over here!” Bill trudged through blood and blue shadows, searching for the sources of the screams.

Looping around slopes and brush, he found his wounded comrades.  Gazing into the wounds, Bill realized most were almost dead.  Hang on, Private!  That’s an order, son!

Artillery explosions threw debris and billowing smoke filled the sky, sheltering them under the midnight sun.

“Hey! Staff Sgt!  Over here!  Corpsman!...”

A familiar voice pulled him back to the cold cement.  “Hey, there! Buffalo, you old man.” He hugged Staff Sgt. Bill.  “Why, you got yourself a new leg, dude!  Shiny thing, too.  And…” he looked at Buffalo’s face.  “Those scars make you look better.  Ladies like the scars, man…”

They walked on, Bill wondering if he would ever feel harmonious and safe with this new life.

And the men are marching...

per Wikipedia

And the men are marching,
Marching,
Faces to the grandstand,
On a windy day.

Marching, marching as
the Shining Brass Band
Officiates.

The humble and the brave
Pass
The pompous and the proud.

Marching into
The soup of history.
