The last remaining of his family, that is who Charles was. It was eerie to be the last and only heir.
The old structure had once been something from folklore complete with all the luxury of the wealthy would have. Now, it was just a target for dust, mites, and rats. The opulent niceties had been chewed away, right down to the silken cushions, once so important.

The word LUXURY is unique for this piece of life story because I had trouble typing it and asked husband John how to spell it. And then I had a stroke, yup, I sure did. Ambulance, ER trip, test and such, admitted to ICU for three days. A TIA diagnosis later and now home, I opened this and finished the story. I just wanted to see if I could make my fingers and brain work in sync. So far, okay.
A stroke??? Oh, Susan, I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that nightmare! I'm relieved, though, to see that you're home and that your fingers are working in tandem with your brain. I'd take that as a positive sign. Keep healing!

DeleteI am so shocked and sad to read this, and also glad you were able to ask how to spell the word and how to put them together. Thank you for letting us know. I am praying for you every day, even when we are not in contact. With you Parkinson's to deal with the TIA just makes things worse. Love you and will be praying
