From the window of "Purrrfect Grooming", Gretta groaned as Mrs. Hick lugged a heavy animal carrier containing Pfffit to her store to be groomed.
Gretta was not happy.
At the previous grooming, Pfffit had attacked her when Gretta tried to clip Pfffit's claws. Even though the harness had been tied securely to the table, Gretta was scratched severely which required stitches. Gretta shivered at the memory.
Mrs. Hick had covered the cost of the injury and work time lost, of course. Mortified, Mrs. Hick made many promises.
When the door opened, Gretta greeted Mrs. Hick kindly. Mrs. Hick anxiously assured her that Pfffit had eaten all the medicated meal served at lunch time. At that, Gretta lifted a woozy Pfffit, which weakly batted a paw at Gretta. Ah, my nemesis...we meet again on a field of battle.
In
fifteen minutes flat, Pfffit was back in the cage and driven away. Mrs.
Hick had paid a three figures for the grooming, but it was worth every
single penny.
Gretta whistled as she counted out the bills.
Pet groomers are to be admired. We had to take our son's cat Scuba to be groomed, and there were 3 monstrous dogs (really big) in their large dog set up. Placed on a high shelf and secured, Scuba did the cat thing, relaxed and purred. No problem.

DeleteI would not want Gretta's job either! Such a difficult job when grooming, or trying to groom, cats. Dogs? That's a different story and a much happier experience. Great story, Susan!
ReplyDeleteThe dogs were huge, really huge. When we took our cat , the dogs were in a jacuzzi like tub to be washed.
DeleteThe dog we have right now loves going to the vet. The previous one actually broke the muzzle the vet placed on her for a routine visit.

DeleteI've had cats which were a nemesis to every form of care and some so laid back, it was a joy to do it. Every one is different.

DeleteI have never used a pet groomer, just took cats to the local vet for nail trimming. Once when Angel had too many burrs in his fur I took him to get shaved, but it's definitely not a common thing here.
ReplyDeleteWe had had fleas in the house, got it sprayed but took the cat to the groomers before.
DeleteFinding a good groomer is huge.
ReplyDeleteIt makes a difference when they are good. My daughter has had good and bad with their dogs.
DeleteI've never owned a cat or a dog but one of my co workers likes to post pictures of her two dogs after grooming. It definitely is a dangerous occupation, although my co worker's dogs don't give the groomer problems. I like the name Pfft. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteI did that once. I took my pet to bed with me. The next morning the bed was soaking wet and my goldfish died.
