My mother always spread a table of sweet corn, meat loaf, mashed potatoes, tons of foods. And then, she laid out her pies. Four pies? I don't know. I was the bus boy, the dishwasher, and the general cleaner.
What wonderful memories.

Our home. Our house, Our hometown. Even though we have grown, moved on, have our own house those videos are in my mind.
Jason Aldean Try that in a small town.
I grew up on a farm surrounded by corn fields, and a smattering of small towns. Without a doubt, every farm has at least a double barrel shotgun, a rifle, and maybe a handgun. Wild animals and wild dogs roamed and attacked livestock throughout the year, even a farmwife could stand with the farmers.
I once joked that if the BLM came rolling to our town, there would be roads of tractors and trucks blocking every entrance. On those and on buildings throughout the business town there would be hunting rifles in the hands of farmers.
Now, I have no jokes about this being cast as offensive, "Try that in a small town".
See what you think. I am curious.
This song says it all about the independence and fortitude of small-town Americans. God, hard work, and no nonsense. Urban areas have become festering wounds on our society because the fear of God and the fear of law have gone down the drain.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Susan!
People in small towns are devoted to each other, churches and things that show who they are.
DeleteI was born in a small town (not America), and I can appreciate many of its positive parameters. People were dedicated to the place and to each other. They were aware of their identity , and created the right living atmosphere that is lacking in the bigger town.
ReplyDeleteThe connection of person to person is what I miss about hometowns. We have many acquaintances, but friends? Only a few now.
DeleteYour hometown sounds like a wonderful place in which to grow.
ReplyDeleteIt took me 60+ years to discover the goodness that exists in small town, deep South, but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
Thumbs up -- both for CSNY and Jason Aldean. (I've not heard the first before; aside from my dislike of Springsteen, I'll probably come back and listen.)
I miss the small town feeling. Most of the farming community developed in the 1830s, and their surnames are still in the county.
DeleteI grew up in a suburb 30mi west of Chicago. It's a huge place now but our little neighborhood is still a lot like when I was little there. (with many more homes though!). My sister lives in our childhood home and wishes she could pick it up and move it to our small town here in Ohio. Even her area has been hit by the big city creepers who just want to destroy everything. I love my adopted small town and we have shotguns at the front door, back door, and master bedroom along with a handgun in a secret place. Just in case of course! Yep, all you weirdos, come on over to this small town!
ReplyDeleteWow. You are set. What town west of Chicago? My stomping grounds are in Pike County, Illinois, by the Mississippi and the Illinois rivers.
DeleteAhhh! Sadly...the music around these days is no where near as it was back then...and further back then....
ReplyDeleteWhat the woke call offensive, we usually call common sense. Great songs!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that amazing! I am a Christian, and I am a deplorable. I am a conservative Christian, so I am doubly damned.
