The Summons

Would you? Could you? Will you?

This is about 4 min. long, and worth every minute.

Irish Children have the gift of gab.

                                                                        quality of life

Ireland. Ireland, oh you are magnificent.  The country, the green, music, literature, and, most of all, its people are magnificent.

Our time in Ireland was only a few scant years where our memories are still are vivid. Our planned visit this year was shelved until the world heals and recovers.

No matter what might be passing in all countries, Irish children have a grasp of language that is peculiar to their country. These ginger haired children have a way of refocusing what is important comparatively.

So, that given, let's all go to the pub, sing some songs, take off pj's and put on clothes, argue with parents, and above all, be amazed at what a child can do at such a young age.

The Lark in the Morning

antique Audubon bird print 14 x 17 Meadow Lark image 0
Meadowlark by James Audobon

Dear thoughts are in my mind
And my soul soars enchanted,
As I hear the sweet lark sing
In the clear air of the day.

For a tender beaming smile
To my hope has been granted,
and tomorrow she shall hear
all my fond heart would say
.
I shall tell her all my love,
All my soul's adoration;
And I think she will hear me
And will not say me nay.

It is this that fills my soul with its joyous elation,
As I hear the sweet lark sing
In the clear air of the day.

Sir Samuel Ferguson, Born 10 March 1810, Died 9 August 1886
Sir Samuel Ferguson, "Perhaps the most Irish Poet
in the 19th century, because of his interest in Irish mythology
and early Irish history, he can be seen as a forerunner of
William Butler Yeats and the other poets
of the Irish Literary Revival."

Be as a bird perched on a frail branch that she feels bending beneath her, still she sings away all the same, knowing she has wings.

In Your Face

YouTube birthday at restaurant

This is my last day at this restaurant. LAST day. This thought ran through her brain as Meg poured a cup of coffee, as she delivered a children's meal, as she beamed at a generous tip left by an older couple. Those were the moments she would miss: the people who smiled at her and she smiled back.

And then there were the moments when she clenched her teeth as a ten year old threw ketchup-covered French fries on the floor and on Meg. The Mom said nothing.

The final moment came as the last minutes ticked to a close: birthday time.

A few other waitresses brought out the requisite blue-icing covered cupcake with the requisite candle to the French fry table. Okay, let's get this over with. Here, Meg, this is your table.  Meg was handed the cupcake, lit it and they headed to ten-year old French fries table.

They sang the requisite hellish song as Meg glared at the boy. At the last moment, Meg blew out the requisite candle and smashed the blue icing cupcake onto the surprised face. Smeared it real good.

Taking off her apron, Meg sauntered away from the French fry air. The cries of the boy were tip enough from that table.

A Coat by W.B. Yeats

Working proof 9 for Poems by W.B. Yeats, Coat II
Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco
artist interpretation of The Coat

I made my song a coat

covered with embroideries

Out of old mythologies

From heel to throat; but the fools caught it,

Wore it in the world's eyes

As though they'd wrought it.

Song, let them take it,

For there's more enterprise

In walking naked.

Every poem has layers and layers of meaning.

The reader is the one who

Takes it and decides on the writer's intent.

What does The Coat say to you? What is its interpretation?

W. B. Yeats was fortunate to be born to some degree of wealth from his mother, and world of art, music, and poetry from his father John Butler Yeats.  Surrounded by such AND not having to worry about supporting himself, W.B. Yeats had freedom to develop his poetry.

His poetry reflects and captures the times and changes of Ireland.

Wednesday Words: Jazz vs. Jewel

Blue Fin Tuna per Wikipedia

Horizon  allow  song  cramp  string  feline

A distant song echoed from beyond the horizon.  Jazz could not allow himself to be seduced by it.  Hidden behind a stringy net spread over the cramped space, he waited for his nemesis, Jewel Feline.  They would settle the territorial rights for blue fin tuna tonight.

Note:
Many thanks to Elephant's Child for the names of the antagonists.
