The Hell of Middle Age

The real Queen's performance of Bohemian Rhapsody is legend. Having watched it months before his death, I was astounded by his voice, piano skills, and range of voice.  So when I found the ladies adapting it by adding words that changed its entire lyrics to fit their needs, I said "I hear you, sisters."

Most men will say, "wut r they sayin'"  But any man who is married or is the son of a woman of any middle years will nod their heads and say "Oh yeah, it is hell. God help me."

I would hope every man reading who knows this to be true, raise your hands.

Rami Said Malek won an Oscar for his performance. He was superb.

Here they are again: Hollywood Self-Aggrandizement Award Ceremony Fests. Oh, how I hate them.  

There will be some great nominations this year, much to my surprise. These movies I rate by my accurate system: How many times do I have to go to the bathroom?

My bladder is almost always correct. What measures the excellence of the movie is how and what I experience throughout the movie and its conclusion. 

Was I emotionally engaged? Did the plot have me traveling with it? Were the characters actors portraying some other person other than themselves? The ending does not have to be fairy tale happily ever after, but it does have to be make some kind of sense. 

The movie must, absolutely must keep me enthralled. Go to the toilet during the previews, yes. But stay to catch every other scene.

Movies that have a clear "And then... where the sequel is in your face" will lead me to question Why? Is a sequel needed? Or does the film holds it own without further travel?

We had no expectations about any movies at any point. The following two movies surprised us. 

Go see this entertaining movie which received excellent reviews. "Uplifting, refreshing" are the reviewer comments: Knives Out. Top notch actors and script appeared. Very much on the lines of Agatha Christie, this movie kept us both in our seats.

Another worthwhile movie is "1917". History of WW1 and WW2 always catches and amazes me. The How and Why of those time periods and of the young soldiers fills me with both anger and sorrow. In this movie, two young men have to carry orders to the front, telling to postpone a large offensive. 

No bathroom breaks with these two, I can tell you. None whatsoever.

Oscars and Esoteric-icity

Yes.

Oscar time is on the horizon, with all its flash and glamour. The red carpet has been vacuumed and shaken out, light bulbs tightened, egos spit-polished, and statuettes lined up.

Enthusiasm here has waned considerably. Thank you, Lord, for DVR and the remote. I will read and my dear one will work on Sudoku until we can speed through the profundity spewing from those more knowledgeable than the rest of the world. 

The thing is that it does not matter at all which are the movies many have enjoyed, but the movies that hold the most meaning and assuage the politically correct need.

(Man, I just read the above paragraphs and I AM IMPRESSED with the sentence structure and vocabulary used. This deserves an Oscar.)

Wednesday Words: Oscar

Door

Oscar retrieved a torn box in the back of his closet.  I remember this!  Didn’t think it still existed….

His daughter Beverly called from somewhere in the house.  “Dad!  You be careful in there!!”  Her hopes of moving Oscar into a geriatric care facility had always seemed improbable. But here she was and didn't want to be detained one moment longer. “See you tomorrow, Dad!!”  Slamming the door with a sigh of finality, Beverly drove away.

Oscar pulled out the rags and eased them over his aged body, smiling at the memories…from his days as a transient.  The final touch was tucking his souvenir Luger from war days into the back of the belt.

After living a philanthropic life, Oscar stepped out the door eager to lead his former misanthropic existence.  Slamming the door behind him, Oscar ambled away with a broad smile...back into the memories of the past.***
