While I did not dare to mouth off or disobey my mama (seriously, things could go south in split seconds), I have two daughters who have mouthed off to me, disobeyed and deceived me. They both were told that "Someday, you will have a daughter who will challenge your knowledge and authority".
Now "the chickens have come home to roost".
I feel your pain.
Now, I smile when my daughter unloads on me about battles fought, won or lost. She knows why I smile, and has said the same sentence I said some 25 years ago.
Ah, life is good.
Hahahaha how true
ReplyDeleteMine was a very different generation too. I absolutely never
"talked back" to my Mother. Didn't dare but not so with my kids
and now they are getting it thrown back at them too. Interesting
how that works, isn't it.
They receive and deserve all the mouthiness they gave to us.
DeleteAhh yes... the perennial parental curse passed down from one generation to the next, "Just wait til you have kids of your own!" (I didn't talk back to my parents either. In fact my mother was fond of saying, "Don't look at me in that tone of voice!")
ReplyDeleteIt will never change.
DeleteThat is the best revenge possible.
ReplyDeleteI never mouthed off. I watched my older brother do dumb things and decided to avoid those.
My daughter now says to me, "Now I understand."
DeleteI know, I told my daughter approximately the same thing, "I hope you have kids just like you." I've had many an opportunity to smile to myself since.
ReplyDeleteSo rewarding.
DeleteHow funny! I don't have any kids, but I get it.
ReplyDeleteJust watching mother and daughter (teen-age) interact in a store or a mall is a big clue.
Deletelmao that is the best form of payback
ReplyDeleteIt's the "back atcha" feeling.
DeleteWe definitely didn't mouth off at our parents. However, on some levels I am glad that communication is now more open that it was when I was growing up. Not on the rudeness front though.
ReplyDeleteRudeness will always have the upper hand in some children.
DeleteAh, karma. Must be fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteIt truly is fun to watch.
DeleteI didn't learn anything about how to parent from my own parents, so I winged it and hoped I did okay. My kids like me now and I've decided I must have done a good enough job, because they are better parents now than I was.
ReplyDeleteYou must have done just fine. We knew nothing about being parents at any stage, we just "winged it" as you said. the kids didn't know. They are wonderful adults.
DeleteAh yes, I know how that can go. Sometimes I gave my mother kind of a rough time, but mostly I was pretty helpful to her. She was so easy going. Fortunately, my own kids usually didn't give me much trouble--but they did have their moments and that's when I'd start remembering the whole "revenge" concept. My own parents set good examples about parenting which I tended to follow for the most part. Mostly it worked.

Sounds like your mom was a kind person, and how dare you give her a rough time!
DeleteHi Susan-I was going through my inbox and noticed I never replied to your question. My daughter's baby is due at the beginning of August.
ReplyDeleteOh, how wonderful! My oldest daughter was born on August 14, 1975. August babies are delightful.
