I’D LOVE TO BE A FAIRY’S CHILD

Children born of
fairy stock
Never need for shirt
or frock,
Never want for food
or fire,
Always get their
heart’s desire:
Jingle pockets full
of gold,
Marry when they’re
seven years old.
Every fairy child may
keep
Two strong ponies and ten sheep;
All have houses, each
his own,
Built of brick or
granite stone;
They live on
cherries, they run wild—
I’d love to be a
Fairy’s child.
It is the end of summer and school will start again. Somehow the start of a new school year makes me feel like I should be somewhere else, doing something else. Something is not quite right--like I don't belong here. I must be a fairy child.

DeleteEvery school season I have this urge to buy school supplies .... and I haven't needed to do that in 20 years.

Oh, well. At least your state/district has school buses. Here in different districts, there are no buses and students get to school on their own.
DeleteI was thinking how much I would like to be a fairy child (who don't get fat or spotty either) until I came across 'Marry when theyre seven years old'. Noooooo.
ReplyDeleteOh, I think the fairy marriage is a little different than ours. It must be a lot more romping in the forest, having fun, less work.
DeleteI wish I could be a fairy's child. That way I could fly over the schools around here. Can I get past the school during school drop off time and school pick up time? Um no! The number of cars that block the streets during those times is unbelievable. Strangely enough, a lot of those adults could walk their kids to school and get there quicker.

Going to fairy school must be about 5 minutes long, since their lives consist of flying about and stuff. No school buses.

ReplyDeleteI love the new school year even now after so many years. I wait for the sales and stock up on notebooks and ballpoints. I'm in love with stationery. One of my daughters is the same.
