The G-H posts veer away from my tilted writing. These two posts will actually be an attempt at a serious appreciation of the horse. I-J posts return with my turn-it-over-and-shake-it approach to writing.
The concept of beauty
conjures many images, as beauty is said to be in the eye of the beholder. At any given time, beauty appears as a
flower, child, landscape, art object—endless possibilities.

Casting my own net
about in the sea of beauty, the image of a galloping
horse was drawn up. It was not a
random catch. Horses are one of the most
spectacular creatures on God’s earth.
I made a random
choice while shopping with a three-year old granddaughter, Sunshine. She was restrained in the shopping cart (for
good reason) and there was a video with the word Spirit as its title. Sunshine clutched it to her little chest and
gave me that pleading piercing gaze only a 3 yr. old child can give.
Since then, Spirit
has been shown innumerable times—so many that even my husband knows the dialogue. Each time, Sunshine ‘gallops’
around the house, tossing her hair and neighing in unison with the herd of galloping
horses.

Who couldn't love horses. They are one of God's most beautiful creatures and who wouldn't smile after reading your post.

In watching a movie or show, I look at the horses while my husband follows the plot line.
DeleteI would have appreciated horses before the auto when we needed them for transportation. I hate mucking up horse poop. I'll just look at pictures of horses.

DeleteBesides humans, horses are God's greatest creation, in my opinion. Nothing more beautiful, more majestic, and such power in a young stallion. No wonder Jesus is returning to earth on a horse!!!! What could be more representative of Him?
ReplyDeleteYes! He rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey/burro, in humility. On His return, He will come as triumphant!
DeleteWhen I was young, I rode horses all the time. I love them for their beauty and sensitivity and their sometimes inappropriate sense of humor. Like: Yes, I will jump that barrier you put up, but then I will stop dead in my tracks, put my head down, and off you go! His name was Billy Boy, a former cavalry horse, who retired to the riding school next door to where I lived as a child.
ReplyDeleteThe one time I rode my brother's 2 yr old quarter horse, Sonny, it took off at full speed, with me hanging on barely.
DeleteApparently Sonny did that with all inexperienced horse riders.
They are beautiful animals indeed, but yeah a litter box is bad enough, cleaning out a horse stall, pfft no way haha

DeleteWow! Okay, I don't know this movie, never heard that song (and I love John Denver) and I was really moved! Beautiful. So... I'm gonna have to check it out on Netflix. I love me a good animated film.
ReplyDeleteDear Susan, like Bish, I will check this out on Netflix. John Denver's singing has always spoken to me and like you, I find horses--and giraffes--to be gorgeous creatures.

Bish and Dee: you will enjoy this movie. It is, in a way, a metaphor for the way the Western plains (and the People) were conquered.

Horses are stunning- I love to see them playing when they get a wild glint in their eye! Usually our two go nuts when it gets windy..

ReplyDeleteWhat an excellent video! But it is hard not to like horses. They are so big, yet so graceful! I can well imagine your granddaughter liking the video. Next, she is going to want a horse, without understanding how much money and time they take.

*swoon* I just love horses. And lucky for me, my best friend just moved to a piece of land where they have their own horses and it is awesome.

My thirty year old daughter is Sunshine grown up! She doesn't gallop around the house neighing, but she lives and breathes horses just the same! Her mare is about to have a baby---bet Sunshine would like that!
