WWords: Recipes for succotash and squash

Lately, Julia was regretting that she had married Merle. She had waited patiently, but Merle had denied her last chances of happiness.

Her mother, Clara had spent an quiet unhappy life, but found solace in her garden, raising mainly succotash and squash with cherry tomatoes. Why, is not known.

At the end of a long day, Julia sobbed in Mom’s kitchen, as Mom chopped the vegetables, adding a carrot for color. “Well, girl. You could use this to settle him down.” She handed over a squash, returning to the succotash.

Julia recognized a solution, a singularly strange one. It would involve Merle, squash, and a battery operated table top circular saw blade. After a quick trip to the Home Depot near Merle’s urban house. Julia knocked at the door. After he opened the door, the carnage began.

She stood over Merle’s body, clutching the squash. “Here you go, sweetheart. Mom sent this for dinner.” She dropped the squash into his bleeding hand.  “She says to saute’ in garlic butter.” Julia left.

Why Mom grew these S-vegetables was always confusing. Maybe some day she would reveal that to Julia.

Wednesday Words are being provided in February by C. Lee McKenzie, a successful strong writer/author. You must go to her site. She is a good writer, and sends shout-outs for fellow authors. Shattered by C.Lee McKenzie has been well received.

Here are the Wed. Words for this week:  sweetheart, semi-table, solace, singularly, solution, married, lately, denied, squash, urban

Wrestle with them and see if you can get them to make sense.  Looking forward to seeing what you find.

You Forgot an Important Holiday.

Red & Pink Valentine's Day Animated Bear

When the doorbell rang, James realized that he was an idiot. He had forgotten a big day.  When Annie has a diamond on her finger, there are certain actions a guy must take:  Buy gift, buy large obnoxious card, search for flowers, find… Oh, he is so dead.

Throwing on clothes and grabbing his wallet, James flew out to the nearest store, a CVS pharmacy.  List in hand, James checked off each gift.

Anything wrapped sticky, chocolate covered? Check. Obnoxious glittery card? Check. Flowers? A little shy on that supply. What else? What else?  James’ chest constricted.

This gift had to be something she wouldn’t expect.

Frustrated James looked around him and giggled. Grabbing a basket, he walked along each aisle, tossing whatever he found into the basket.  Animated teddy bear? Oh yeah.

Hello kitty plush in a mug?  Yup.

James lost control.  Aisles rolled by a supply of miraculous items he threw into the basket. Water pistols? Heck, yeah. Six pack of Diet Coke? Hello Kitty bath toy? Better believe it.

James was exhausted. At home, he wrapped up the haul with Christmas paper, and finished just in time.  Annie walked in, giggling with delight.  When she got to the Hello Kitty, James sensed the moment passing.  Desperately, James handed her a gift bag.

Annie pulled out a red and pink wood chip wreath (good price, $25). Life was good again. Until next time.

Here’s what Elephant’s Child writes to explain the meme: “Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music, or an image.  What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, or a poem… We can use some or all of the prompts, and mixing and matching is encouraged.” Writers may post at the word site, and/or at their own blog site. Be sure to tell the world that you wrote something really good.

Politics and Words

All of my friends are posting intense political rants on facebook, and I'm just over here like, "Hey, I made pancakes!" | Funny quotes, Funny, I love to laugh

This issue has gone too far.  I refused to be politically correct since before Clinton was president.

In this PC (politically correct) generation and country, more words and more will emerge.  Anything that even hints as a criticism of anyone, race, sexual preference...you name it and it is not PC.

Recently the word "person" is under attack by students at a Washington (?) State University (maybe).  The second syllable "son" is objectable: it is gender offensive.  Now "son" should be "perx" or "perxn"?

Did you know that calling a person/perxn "crazy" is offensive.  It should be "albeist slur" which refers to a person who is mentally deficient.

Did you know that at a recent SyFy convention, the organizers could not create a food choice for space aliens?  They chose to serve Mexican food because this had never been served at previous conventions.  It was offensive because it could be construed as a reference to Mexican immigrants or "aliens".

"Homosexual" is offensive and should be "same gender loving"..."elderly" is "people of advanced age"..."healthy" is "non-disabled individuals"...

A commemoration of the Holocaust was cancelled because "it was too Euro-centric."

The above were found on Listverse.com.

How many more words will be under attack by spoiled and self-serving  students?  Can you think of some?

Parents: If you are paying for your student to attend a school of this nature, jerk the money rug from beneath them.  Community colleges are excellent; two years of required classes there will save money. And, insist on a part-time job to help pay for gas and car insurance.

There.  I feel much better.

This is a repost from 2018 or maybe 2015. I could replace the "date published" with today's date, or even one where my gr-kids graduated from college. What was written back then can be copied and paste to a new post. Basically, what was new back then is now old. New words are the same as the old words, just upgraded (!), made accurate.
