The cold grey gun barrel of
winter bore down on the
small town of Winchester. Snow heavy clouds
were aimed at the town, straight in the storm’s sight.
Bill and Annie Lamott
took stock of the supplies in the barn. “We
have enough for this storm, but if winter hammers us like it did last winter….” He left the words unspoken.
Steers moved restlessly
in the large corral. A bolt of lightning
could trigger a stampede.
Annie hurried to the
barn where a newborn colt huddled closely to the mare, Black. Annie had named the colt “Powder”. She stroked the mare’s soft muzzle.
Many thanks to Delores @ Under the Porch Light! This week's words didn't work out (how frustrating!) So I took up the prompt.
