Three hags

antique illustration of the three macbeth witches - three witches stock illustrations

The decades of living in their chaotic home revealed much about the three sisters. Being kept in confined spaces, their atmosphere was dank, the air was blue with trenchant yelling, turmoil, and cursing.

Beatrice, Grace, and Marilyn lived far away on the grid that was their village. Even more, the three were blind. Desperate people climbed the rocks to get help. All they needed, just this one thing, was the eye. The all important eye held answers.

At night, villagers shivered as the sisters sang the same dang song:  Cackling, was the big number through the night, harmonizing hag-songs of their past. Grace complained, “We sang that one yesterday”.

That was when hell broke loose. The cauldron in which the eye floated was kicked over by Beatrice, sending the eye cascading. The three sisters screeched : “When the hurley-burley begins, love ends". Marilyn crooned the sonorous loudest, so she took off with the harmonies.

The village went to bed in silence. thankful for their existence. But was there any peace, quiet, safety?  What to think? Are they safe?

The "Clash of the Titans" movie featured three blind hags who had a thing for the magic eye. 1981 was the first movie, and then again in 2010.  Perseus was the "godling" (son of Zeus, being who being himself, had his way with Danae). 1981 was best.  Good memories.

This was a Wed. Words brilliant writing in 2022.

Rainy Day at St. Catherine church

A gentle breeze seemed simple to the town of Cork.

However, there was a coming storm on its way, but it was nothing new to the church of St. Catherine. As such, the Ladies’ Auxiliary gathered baskets of clothing, linens, and canned food for the needy.

St. Catherine was an ordinary town, where St. Catherine’s had a reputation to maintain, one of gentility and generosity. The Ladies Auxiliary had been watching the stormy skies and setting up the tea tables for the coming rain.

Voluntary spinsters swept the sanctuary and dusted benches. After all the work, the storm hit with a vicious vengeance. The Ladies raced about the sanctuary, gathering prayer cards, and locking the office windows.

“Well, ladies. It seems weather has taken our joy of worship. Let’s set and enjoy our worship with the cards.” Nuns do not scurry, as a rule. But some raced to the office, opening the cash box, and cards were dealt.

Money and heavy rains did not matter, as long as there was good strong Irish tea and the cards dealt were high cards. Cheating was not allowed.

Wednesday Words have been part of bloggers' lives over a decade or more.  The words are to share  for any blogger who wants to play around with words. This challenge was created by Delores who has since handed it off to volunteers.

Check at river-driftingthroughlife@blogspot.com, and myjustsostory@blogspot.com to see weekly words on Wednesday.

This is from April 2022.  The underlined words are from the challenge that week.

Big Sister Little Sister

 10562.jpg

As a five year old, Patty was intrigued by a ladder that leaned on the porch.

Although with dust and dirt, Patty knew that her climbing skills were inadequate. She had stop the climb, choosing to slide down splinters-covered porch. It was a rough ride .

Damn, Patty swore. The best she could manage on the porch today was tangling little sister Debbie's long blond hair, while she played sweetly in the playpen.

For good measure, Patty wove in sticker weeds. Mom is so gonna kill me, she guessed.  Oh, well.

Wednesday Words are highlighted above. No idea when I posted, but I'd say about 2018.

This is a blog post 2014. Only bits of words manage to work through. Let me ask you: Did you ever do stupid careless things that you really needed to think through.  I made some unwise decision, and so far, I think there will be more unwise decisions.
