The world-wide
political situation has become untenable.
Iran---what is the next move? Who will make it?
Syria—just
saying that country’s name brings shivers throughout. Just because the name isn't on front page news anymore doesn't mean there are no atrocities.
Benghazi—will the truth ever be known? An ambassador assassinated while propriety is discussed?
Benghazi—will the truth ever be known? An ambassador
Pedophiles—how
can a person who preys on children be allowed to mingle with an unknowing
public? How can the Catholic Church know about the pedophile priests and simply relocate them???
Racism and Anti-Semitism--how can any intelligent human being support such hate? How can such hate be kept below the radar for so long?
THEY
should do something about these issues. THEY cannot allow these issues to
continue.
Who are THEY?
I just looked in a
mirror, and I think I saw one of THEM
in there.

We can't do much about world-wide problems, but we can do some good and contribute to the quality of life in our towns and neighborhoods by volunteering and giving of ourselves to improve what is around us.
ReplyDeleteI heard a story yesterday about a little 8 year old girl who started a lemonade stand to raise money to fight child slavery. Somehow it went viral and the cause has collected over $400, 000. Amazing!
We can all do our part, no matter how small that act of kindness may seem to be.
Kindness starts small and grows. God bless that little girl!
DeleteOne person at a time, one day at a time, one act at a time ... we CAN change the world.
ReplyDeleteExactly. We start changes in our homes, towns, and then it rolls on.
DeleteI hope you posted this only to make us more aware, not because you are assuming the burden of guilt. Arlene and Delores are right; project your own values to the world and then let it go.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct. I no longer take out my wooden sword and charge into battles...my changes start here where I am.
DeleteIf all helped for change we may get somewhere
ReplyDeleteOne person to another to another...that is how things progress.
DeleteBringing awareness to these topics is vital- I teach my children not to hate and inform them about the atrocities committed in the past, with the hope it will help keep these horrors from being repeated and passed down.
ReplyDeleteChildren learn values from even their earliest years. That is where change begins.
DeleteYeah people lie to whine for change but they don't want to get off their widening arse to do anything about it.
ReplyDeleteI hear you.
DeleteSusan, we each have a responsibility to do our bit, one day, one step, one action at a time. We would see some amazing results.
ReplyDeleteOne step, one day, one action at a time. Well said.
DeleteHaving just looked back over my 50 years in this country, I know we have come far, but I am amazed at how much farther we have to go.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, I worked hard for what I believed in. Now, I will do the right thing when an occasion arises. I will speak up and stand up for what I I think is right. And I have absolutely no fear. That's the minimum we all have to do. I would look in my mirror with some regret for not having done more, but I know I did at least something.
That little girl, mentioned above, whose efforts went viral, who raised all that money, who cared so much at such a young age, has all my respect and admiration. As do you, Susan, for raising these issues.
I think I can look in that mirror and know that each day I have done or said something that will make change for the good.
DeleteO dear, I thought at first, she’s going to tell THEM how to get things right. She’s one of THOSE who know.
ReplyDeleteAnd then I saw that you are one of US.
It is easy to legislate from the recliner with a TV remote in one hand and diet Coke in the other. But harder still is to live a life that shouts out of one's beliefs.
DeleteWe do change the world, all of us. The challenge is to ensure that the changes that we are responsible for are positive.
ReplyDeleteAnd it is a big responsibility!
DeleteYou are not going to believe this: I just finished working on a post for later about the murals of Tehachapi. One of the murals depicts a local legend named Avelino Martinez, who worked for Joaquin Murrieta. I just finished editing it and was wondering if the entire town of Murrieta was also named after a bandit. And then I read you comment, so now I know. I don't know what to make of this naming places after outlaws.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered if California towns were named after bandits with the fascination people have for "Robin Hood" or "Zorro".
DeleteWe look at our own reflection. Do we like what we see? What we've become?
ReplyDeleteAnd what of the horror on the street in London? What drives a human to do such a despicable act?
Peace and hope, Susan.
Gary
The images were horrifying and the family must be numb with grief.
Delete"I have met the enemy, and he is us!"
ReplyDelete~ Pogo Possum (Walt Kelley)
Oh my, Pogo Possum--a name from the past!
DeleteAwareness is the first step. And then it's one small act at a time. My mom always told me to leave a room cleaner than I found it. I think we could take that further. To leave the world better than we found it.
ReplyDeleteAn excellent goal to which we must aspire--to leave the world in better shape!
