A NATION’S STRENGTH
Not gold, but only man can make
A people great and strong;
Men who, for truth and honor’s sake,
Stand fast and suffer long.
Brave men who work while others sleep,
Who dare while others fly—
They build a nation’s pillars deep
And lift them to the sky.
RALPH WALDO EMERSON
Brave indeed and deserve everyones respect.
ReplyDeleteA day to honor those who served and a day to remember.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing such a great poem!
ReplyDeleteThis morning we went to a Memorial Day service at a cemetery near us. The VFW presented the program and the Boy and the Girl Scouts participated. Veterans from WW2, Korean, Vietnam, Gulf, Irag, and Afghanistan were present.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I were humbled by their dignity and honor. This is the way to spend Memorial Day.
My husband and brother both served and I am proud of them both. I am also thankful that while they served during the terrible years of the Vietnam era, they never had to go into battle.
ReplyDeleteHappy Memorial Day - and I love that you spent the day appropriately and didn't just claim a 'holiday'.
