Apparently, I was ignorant about these women. None of them were part of my real world, and I was not or would ever be part of theirs.
The following videos are all similar, all about 2 minutes long. Can you guess which one is actually from that time period?

I'd show this to my wife, but I wouldn't keep a straight face through any of it.

DeleteSherry's mama worked in the cotton mill. My mama was a working mama for a period in the 20-30s but by the time I came along she was a stay at home preacher's wife. My Sherry was a working mama, stay at home mama, and a working mama over the years.
ReplyDeleteAmazing these shows, but we did see them on TV in shows like Father knows best or Dennis the Menace. Reinforcing the ones above.
I learn slow (as a husband) it only took me about 50 years to learn, but I did. She then has kept me thirteen more years. LOL I hope it is a few more years before I find my self nekkid on a lonely road.

DeleteActually, i know a man who is single because he really believes this is how the home should be. He wonders why he can't find anyone, and would never understand if it were explained to him.

DeleteThat looks like my Dad's idea of a perfect home, everything done for him, waited on hand and foot. Didn't happen of course.

DeleteOh my, times have changed. Me? Dad came home, they'd have a drink, dinner got on the table, after mom did the dishes and maybe dad would help, then play with me. It was so easy. (I'm sure, not. But hey, I was a kid.)

DeleteI suspect, from watching people I know, that one of the reasons for so many marriage break-ups is that some husbands expect their wives to carry out all the same tasks that their mothers took care of; that ain't gonna happen in these days. Those days are not completely gone yet - when I was a care worker (I only retired 4 years ago) I had parents of the children I looked after asking if I did the washing and other tasks that they thought of as "women's work".
