Garema Place

From Elephant's Child
Buddy and Carla had saved all their married lives for this trip, and by golly, they would see as much of this street art place in Australia as they could.

The bus tour gave them 45 minutes to roam about a park in the middle of Canberra called “Garema” Place.

“Hell, Carla, if I’da wanted to look at weird metal stuff all over the place, I’da made one at home,” Buddy stood with his big belly balanced by hands on hips.  “Mighty dumb, if ya ask me.”

‘Glad I didn't ask.’  Carla mentally responded.  She came to a lonely plaque on the sidewalk.  As she read it silently, a tear slid down her cheek.  ‘Well, at least you rejoiced when it came, Linette Bone.’

Buddy hollered, “Time to get back on the bus.  Who wants to look at that. Get on over here."

Carla sighed, looking one last time at the plaque.  ‘Hope you were loved….’  Then she joined Buddy on the bus.

This was a photo prompt from May 2012.  Its history, told in few words, touched me.

    1. Carla saw a future for Linette and her baby. Perhaps Carla saw where her past and future were tied up with Buddy.

  2. I remember your take on this prompt. It moved me then, it moves me still. And I still wish bad things on Buddy.
And yes, each time I go through Garema Place I read Linette's story and wonder...

  3. I don't think poor Carla was loved. Buddy is a jerk. Just my humble opinion

    1. Somehow Carla hooked up with Buddy. Was he always a jerk? Who knows.

  5. There are a couple gifs for Buddy. One is titled "Whole Man Disposal Service". The other shows a man thrown at an open dumpster.

  8. I've never known a man like Buddy, but I assure you, if I did, he could board the bus and I'd find my own way back, even if it was across the country or the "pond."

    1. Buddy-type people abound. Carla should try that, but I doubt she will.

    1. He is a bully, so it would take some real effort to convince him.

  10. Carla should have saved up for herself and gone with her sister or a friend who would have appreciated the trip. I did.

  12. I live with the two best traveling companions I've ever had. One was by choice, the second by luck.

  13. Buddy's pretty much a shallow Hal. I would have stood and cried with her.

  14. Hi Susan - that's why I really do not like 'public transport' even though this was a communal bus tour ... awful!

Poor young Linette Bone - sad tale ... yet the baby was born and presumably lived happily ever after ... stay safe ... Hilary

    1. In Switzerland, their public transport is amazing. On time, clean, people are polite...it is different from everywhere else.
