Did You Know?

Did you know? If you cut your hair, it gets shorter
Did you know?

Journals have always held my thoughts and observations. My church journal was one in which I outlined the sermon for that day.  This is how my brain works. Writing holds words in place.

I was sorting through my pile of journals and came across one from twenty years ago, when life seemed much simpler, in line with my-then organized life.  The following was from those golden times.

Did you know that the earth is only 50,000 years old?  Some religious people settled down to log lifespans in 24 hour segments and came out with 50,000 years. Also, when God created the sun and moon, He put it down in 24 hours time bits.

Dinosaurs? They were the remains of an earlier version of the world, before God re-created it. Plus, dinosaurs were really part of satan's plan to mess with the whole creation thing.

Did you know that extraterrestrials are really demons?  All those lights and such are ways to deceive us.  Wow.

Did you know that hypnotism opens one's soul to be taken over by demons' takeover?

Did you know ghosts are really just demons? They are not real. Just evil.

Did you know that horoscopes are a way to divert the faithful. Psychics are also evil and deceptive, and they have demons as part of their family line.

These thoughts are from sermons presented by a man whom I truly respect, an intelligent man. But, even way back then, as I wrote all above, I also wrote: "Really? I mean, really?"

To believe sincerely requires one to understand. Facts and faith go together.

P.S.
God does not wear a wrist watch. He does not need to log time the way we do. He has control over time.

  2. I am always cautious aroung people who are dogmatic about facts. On any subject. There is always more to learn.

    1. If there were not more to learn, we would be stuck in a rut.

  3. Dinosaurs are from a previous time before God re-created Earth? So who created the original? the same God, or another God who also created "our" god who then recreated Earth.... and who knows how long this has been going on?

    1. This is what happens when people try to guess Omnipotence.

  4. Is this a question of metaphysics?

I love to question everything. Of course, I want answers that make sense.

    1. I really don't know why these thoughts were tossed out there with the authority of the pulpit.

  5. Strange the things we heard many years ago. BUT the PS sums up my feelings. I have always searched for TRUTH. I think many times there are people who do not want the truth, fairytales are BEST (for them)
Sending the best of thoughts your way,

    1. We moved away and the church eventually dissolved.

  7. I love going through old journals of mine. Some are overwrought with angst or effusive with joy; others or lists or little bits, like this. It shows who we are and were.

  8. Just wanted to say hi Susan, I can't really comment on this post though! My beliefs would have me burning in hell in his opinion I'm guessing! :)

    1. I doubt He would condemn anyone for thinking and questioning. God wants to see someone grow and think, find truth and faith.

  9. I wish I had kept journals. But I didn't. So now I cant remember anything. I hear things like that preached today and I'm amazed that people can still believe some of that insanity.

    1. You are right! These thoughts are still considered to be Biblically true.

    1. It is just as well. Even though this was 20 years ago, I still remember being aghast.

  12. The 'PS' is the part everyone forgets. Even though I am basically a "short-earther" I realize that God could have arranged things just a little differently than I can rightly comprehend.

  13. I always wondered what the explanation of scientific facts would be in some church or other. Interesting and strange at the same time.

  14. I used to keep journals like a diary. But One day I realized that I had over 20 of them and didn't want anyone ever getting their hands on them if I died so I burned them all. lol

  15. Interesting, I never heard all that before. You're right, there's nothing like the truth and people don't like to hear the truth.

  16. wow how interesting to find old diaries and learn how we used to look at life and universe then !

all that you wrote in your journal was interesting but the question you put at end REALLY?

showed that you were wondering about what you were being told and this is quality of a brilliant student :)

  17. Susan:
Journals are a good addendum to anyone's life. Done ti myself.
And YES, writing does create a wonderfully tangible aspect to whatever and whenever we choose to place pen to paper.
    As for God and time?
Yeah, HE created it, so I guess he's MUCH better at it's passage than we could ever be.
Oh, and definitely, twenty years ago was MUCH better in many ways.
They don;t call them "the good old days" for nothing, hmm?'

    1. Oh, that is true. Good Ole' Days become good the further we get from them. 20 yrs. ago was pre-9/11, pre-"freedom of speech, but only for some" and more.

  18. Some people need to be the authority on everything. I never have a problem being questioned. I like it when people (even kiddos) ask questions to understand. Active minds make for a stronger society.

  19. "Writing holds words in place" and words nail the concepts. When I grasped that concept, my grades improved straightaway.

  20. I'm researching the universe at the moment but theres a lot I dont know about... Heaven, demons, ghosts, hypnotism and extraterrestrials the existence of which is dubious at best but even still i must confess. The beginning of wisdom is I do not know. Well as a human, I do not know what Gods plan is.
