In the Bleak of Winter

Winter and  Cardinal
One the most beautiful birds ever
Depending where you are, it is winter. In Australia, a fire is still being fought in its their roasting heat winter.  In stretches across the U.S., Midwest, East and Northern states are having a cold winter, with snow in parts and bitter wind for all.

Not too much to say about winter, except it gets cold and snowy and windy in many places.  Here is performance of the Boys Choir in Kings College Cambridge. The poem is written by Christine Rossetti, a renown poet.

YouTube about 4 minutes long

Beautifully sung. A little on the slow side, so I would fast forward.

    1. There is no beauty in the snow like the cardinal. Illinois State bird, I think.

  2. The red bird is my favorite bird and they DO stand out in WINTER for sure.. I love the choir but winter is another story at our house. I don't really mind the cold but my girl is so cold natured, she is constantly wrapped like an Athabaskan. ;-)

  3. I like your new profile pic. Very pretty, you look very happy. I love Winter. Love it. It's actually cold, windy, overcast and rainy today and these are my favorite kinds of days. I tend to not like bright, sunshiny days. lol

  4. Your photo of the cardinal is gorgeous. I read a blog by an Australian who said rains there have put out all the bushfires. I haven't checked this, but it sounds like a blessing. My blog today has a photo of my Black Tulip magnolia in bloom here in my garden in California. Quite a contrast in weather.

  5. I miss the cardinals that I so enjoyed when living in N.J. We have had one epic snowstorm here in the mountains, after that nothing until last night when a little bit of rain fell.

  8. Cardinals are one of the beautiful birds that you see and we don't. Birds that I would love to see for myself.
Still summer here, but there are hints that she is slowly moving on.
The fire nearest us still smoulders. I am really, really hoping for more rain.

  9. Love Cardinals against a snow background. They are winter's ornaments. I love snow and the cold but so far all we have had is some cold and lots of brown.

  12. Cardinals are magnificent birds, especially in winter.

Here in southern New York, it really has not felt like winter this year. This is the mildest year that I can recall.

    1. Winters in the Midwest where my siblings live has been pretty mild. Cardinals have that glow about them.

  13. We love our cardinals. They are rather shy.

It's cold for the swamps right now, but we relish it, as we know the summer will come.

  14. I love cardinals. I have many in various forms in my main floor bath. However, I couldn't see the cardinal photo. I even refreshed. It's definitely winter here.

  15. Beautiful song, beautiful voices.

Snow and winter never made it to eastern PA. I am not sad about that except that the cardinals in my yard are hard to spot without snow in the background.

  19. Seeing a red cardinal on the bare winter branches has to be one of the joys of living where the snow and ice freezes everyone for almost half the year. It's summer here and while we have had quite a few cooler than usual days, today was like walking into an oven when I stepped outside close to lunchtime.

  20. You are down in Australia, so you won't to see those red birds. But, Sue shows the gorgeous birds there!

  24. Thd Cardinal looks right at home in the snowy photo. We had some snow today more than I ever seen since being here. I had to go to the dentist in Donegal Town and it looked like a blizzard was going on. :)
