Car 54, where are you?

Main hero is incredible.
Hawaii 5-0

Have you ever noticed trends that circle around a drain hole? This trend here is television programming, where a plethora of similar shows appear and then head down the drain.

This year it seems that dominant shows are police and/or spy dramas.  Everything is a drama. No comedy in police shows, just in shows I don’t watch.

Car chasescheck.  Gun battles, check. Non-memorable bad guys, check. Bad guys killed, check.

Important witness runs into the street to get away, check. Gets smashed by a vehicle, check

Guilty person is one who has had most TV time in acting career, check. Comforting moments, check. More car chases and car (by the way) is usually Chevy or Ford, check.

It goes on.  This list is long, if one gets picky. Drain hole awaits.

  1. That's why I really miss the show Psych. At least it had humor.

  2. 'No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.' Or the taste. And it is true here too.

  3. Yikes is right, that quote is general and it stings a bit. It does have more than a modicum of truth to it though. Some of the things we like as a general public (zombies, ripped jeans, reality shows, repetitive plots, etc.) do leave a lot to be desired.

    1. Playing to an audience ignores many of us.

  4. Too many procedurals. I try to skip as many as possible, but sometimes I still get sucked in.

    1. Sometimes husband will have on one of his shows, I'll walk by, and end up standing there and watch for several minutes.

  5. Funniest car chase I ever saw. I like a lot of the cop shows, but some are better made than others, and if there are too many "cringe" moments I'll usually give up on that show. Something with a little added comedy like the clip you have here goes a long way to making a show worth watching.

  6. Did you know the original Hawaii 5-0 was on for 12 seasons? Long time!

    1. I swear we watched every episode of the original! Wo Fat--truly evil. James MacArthur--a dish!

  7. I can't seem to just sit empty-handed and watch TV. I watched Dancing With
the Stars last night so I could work on curtains I'm making. Two hours and I got quite a bit done.

    1. Usually reading or on computer during TV time. IF something catches me, I will start paying attention.

  8. I don't watch cop shows as they made a turn about 10 or so years ago and became very violent. I do not understand the need for all of it and I think it has a negative impact on the audience. There aren't too many comedy shows that I watch either as they are more about insults than anything else. I do like The Middle, even though insults are part of it too, but it does make me laugh, and there always is a happy family ending. We sure could use more of that.

  9. There's really not much worth watching on TV anymore. I started to watch the new series of Anne of Green Gables but it wanders off the path of the book too much so I gave that up. I remember Car 54..it was a hoot.

    1. I hate when a good book is made into a TV series or a movie, and then takes off on its own.

  10. There's not a lot on TV that interests me outside of CNN and the news....well okay...and Big Bang Theory:)
    I HATE reality shows.

    1. REality shows are living-vicariously, and I truly hate them. Except for Amazing Race.

  11. Castle, Psych and Monk, especially the two latter ones, were at least fun and somewhat different. Now it's just blah. Always the actor you see everywhere and they have a whole 2 mins of screen time. Pffft.

  12. Bates Motel is current and still running, Norma has her usual hang-ups which gives this modern version a convincing black humor edge.

  13. We stopped watching network television years ago. I think the last series we watched was Northern Exposure.
We do watch movies on HBO and cable networks but we normally DVR them and watch then at out convenience.

  14. I do not like reality shows.

I do enjoy the Scandinavian Dramas that our BBC4 Channel is currently showing in the UK.

  15. Several mentions of Psych here, I'll have to dig out my dvds and have another look. English mysteries are good TV, Midsomer Murders and a newish one, Agatha Raisin.

    1. Agatha Raisin is excellent. I have to think that the name "Agatha" was borrowed.
