August Thoughts

It is August 29th and the day will be roasting hot by noon.

Just when the inside feels like I could bake cookies on the counter, a magical thing happens.

Our local energy company SDG&E employs the FLEX energy plan to keep the electrical grids from over-loading.  That means they can turn my A/C off.  Off!! with the fan still running.

Off, with the interior thermometer rising slowly up the scale.  82º?  That is nothing.  86º, and it keeps rising.  I stop looking.

Outside?  Thermometer past 95 and still going...

The A/C returns after 8 PM.  God bless it.

Truth is: Summer makes me cranky.  Life sucks.  Leave me alone.

  1. I sympathize, my dear. We've been dealing with 95 plus degree weather since late June. However... we've never had our power restricted. Texas knows better than to do that. The government would have another revolution on its hands. :)

  3. Feeling the heat today too... I live in SD and was crazy enough to make brownies in the oven. What was I thinking? Your pictures made my day. Getting out the fan now ( :

    1. I live in SD as well! Where abouts? I baked a pumpkin pie the other day. Joanne @Cup on the Bus posted about her pumpkin vines. I long for November.

  5. I'm so familiar with this since we have no AC. And both dogs look just about like the one in your picture. I hope the Farmer's Almanack is correct and it will be a cold winter.

    1. I sure hope so! No A/C? When we lived in the desert, we had a "swamp cooler" which cooled by throwing mist into the air.

  6. Might be a good time to go see a long movie, then stop by your local grocery store for a slow walk down the frozen food section and finish it off at a frozen yogurt stand.

  9. I worked in whatever the weather had to offer for twenty summers. Moving inside for winter shows--priceless.

    1. I did not get A/C until 1998!! Winters, while snow also sucks, is much better.

  12. I personally think it is very rude of the electricity companies to be treating people this way. I bet THEIR aircons don't get turned off.
