Eclipsing Love--Venus in Transit

Source

Burning a trail

 Across scorching

Yellow star,

Brave little planet

Venus--

Goddess of Love.

eyes closed

against the blaze of pure light

Small fury

Making a journey.

Goddess

Crosses over solar storms

Seeking its orbit.

Planet against star—

Will both burn

to cinders?

The little black dot is Venus.  The large orange ball is the Sun!  Who will win?

  2. Very nice! I was lucky enough to view part of the transit at a local observatory. It reminded me how huge our sun really is :-)

  6. How beautiful. Thank you.
Does it have to be a battle? I vote for them both continuing, long after even memories of me are dead and gone.

  8. Beautiful pics and poem - I remember reading about this celestial phenomenon...
And now you've made me think of the song Venus, by Frankie Avalon (I think...)
It will be ringing in my head for a while...

  11. Hey Susan,
Nicely put and wasn't that something. Of course, the next transit of Venus will be December 10–11, 2117. Look forward to that. They had a very informative documentary on the BBC in regards to Venus. Fascinating in a thickly cloud covered sort of way.
Can you believe some jokers called it something beginning with the letter "P" that rhymes with Venus :)
Hope you had a peaceful weekend.

  13. Beautiful and powerful in so few words!

Oh, and in response to what you said on my post from last Wednesday, yes, sometimes when I try to roar, I end up yawning just like my cat. But at least I'm attempting to roar!! :)

    Great post!
    Cheers,
    Jen
